JAMMU, Oct 11:  Police today recovered an AK-56 rifle from the bed of river Tawi, where an artificial lake is being constructed under the jurisdiction of Canal police post.
“The labourer working at the construction site of artificial lake in river Tawi this morning noticed the rifle lying in the bed of the river and informed the police,” reports said.
Police parties led by SHO Nowabad Jaipal Sharma and Incharge Police Post Canal Sub Inspector Hillal Azhar rushed to the spot and seized the weapon. It has been sent for examination.
Reports said the weapon might either have been washed away in the Monsoon rains or kept in the area by some suspects. The police has taken up investigations.
“We have seized the weapon and were investigating as to how it reached the river Tawi bed,” police sources said, adding searches were conducted in the area but no arrests have been made.
