AJMER, May 13: Congress Supremo Sonia Gandhi today offered velvet chadar at the Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti’s dargah even as festivities of the 801 annual urs of the Sufi saint are at its peak at the shrine.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik, Union Minister Sachin Pilot and several dignitaries brought the chadar at the dargah sharif in procession and offered at the holy tomb on behalf of Ms Gandhi.
A large number of devotees -zayreens- thronged the shrine from different parts of the country to pay obeisance during the urs that had begun on May 11 evening with sighting of the moon.
Chadars on behalf of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva have already been offered at the holy tomb.
The urs would conclude on May 16 with the Kul ceremony.
