JAMMU, Mar 30: All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association (AJHLA) has expressed concern on the delay being caused in providing sewerage connections to the hotels despite assurance by the authorities to do the needful by the end of March 2015.
Addressing a meeting of the Association held here today, Inderjeet Khajuria, president, AJHLA, urged the Sewerage Department to complete the work on the layout of pipes and provide connections to the Hoteliers in Jammu who are under constant pressure of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) to install Sewerage Treatment Plants or else close the operation of hotels forthwith.
“Notice to the effect has already been issued by the PCB to the Hoteliers and the survival of thousands of employees and their children is at stake as a consequence”, he said and appealed Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh and Forest Minister Bali Bhagat for their personal intervention to ensure sewerage connections to the Hoteliers at the earliest and in the meanwhile directing J&K State PCB not to harass the Hoteliers.
Narrating the economic crisis the Hoteliers are facing, Khajuria said that the PCB has already sealed the operation of occupancy in rooms exceeding 19 rooms in the Hotels which cannot be made operational for occupancy unless sewerage connections are provided.
“The department of Sewerage has already completed most of the pipe laying work in the city and the Treatment plant has already been installed at Bhagwati Nagar. What is remaining is only the providing of connections to the Hotels which should be accelerated as the progress is dead slow”, he added.
