Air traffic remains disrupted due to fog in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Air and road traffic was again disrupted for the third day today in the Kashmir valley due to dense fog, disrupting normal life.
An official of the Srinagar International Airport told UNI that due to poor visibility following dense fog, GoAir flight, which was scheduled to land here at 0900 hrs has been cancelled.
He said the sky remained cloudy and there was still no improvement in the visibility. However, decision about other flights will be taken later in the day.
Since November 23, a day after Chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed introduced helicopter service to world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam from the airport, all incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled due to poor visibility.
This is for the first time in about a decade that flights from Srinagar airport were cancelled due to fog. However, in the past flights were being cancelled due to snowfall on runway.
Though there was some improvement in the morning, but as the day progressed visibility dropped due to fog, affecting road transport.
Very less number of vehicles could be seen on the roads, plying with headlights on with a very low speed.
People also remained indoor due to serve cold though the night temperature was above normal. (UNI)
