Air traffic from Srinagar airport suspended due to snowfall

SRINAGAR: Air traffic was suspended from Srinagar International Airport and several flights were cancelled on Wednesday following light to moderate snowfall and poor visibility.

This is the third time in January that air traffic was suspended from Srinagar airport due to snowfall.

Several incoming and outgoing flights from the Srinagar airport were suspended following fresh snowfall since Wednesday morning,? an Airport official said.

However, he said three morning flights operated normally from Srinagar airport, which is the only airport in Kashmir valley.

Passengers, who had reached airport from different parts of the valley, were waiting though a notice has been issued by the airport authority that there is no chance of operating any flight until weather improves.

A number of traders said passengers travelling from Srinagar airport face similar situation every winter and Government has failed to address this issue.

A Met department spokesperson told UNI light to moderate rain and snow would occur during the next 24 hours at many places in Kashmir valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.

Air traffic was suspended for two days from January 4 due to snowfall and poor visibility while it was again affected on January 12. (AGENCIES)
