Air services for Poonch soon: DC

POONCH, July 10: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tariq Ahmed Zargar today convened a meeting with district Police and Defence personnel to discuss modalities and arrangements for the start of chopper services in the district.
The meeting was attended by SSP Rajiv Kumar Panday , Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurvinderjeet Singh, Chief Medical Officer Mumtaz Batti, defense personnel from 93 infantry brigade and representatives from PHE and PWD.
The meeting held threadbare discussions on various core issues like potential location for helipad, security issues, checking of passengers and their luggage, provisions of waiting room and washroom facilities at the site.
It was informed that a nodal officer from district administration shall be appointed to coordinate with all stakeholders to facilitate completion of all Codal formalities.
It is pertinent to mention that Union Government gave its nod for the start of air service for both Poonch and Rajouri districts and in the first phase air service will operate on Mondays and Saturdays.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the air services will ease problems of the people of Peer Panjal area particularly Poonch, adding that it will also give a much-needed boost to tourism activities in the district.
