Agitating Contractual Lecturers take out ‘funeral’ procession of State Govt

JAMMU, Aug 12: As the ongoing chain hunger strike by the Contractual Lecturers completed six months today, the protesters held a strong protest demonstration against the Government and torched effigies of Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister.
The protesting Contractual Lecturers took out a mock funeral procession of the State Government and staged a demonstration at ever busy Dogra Chowk thus disrupting vehicular traffic there for around an hour.

They were raising slogans against the State Government, Education Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and also in support of their demand of regularization. The protest demonstration was also addressed by leaders of All J&K 10+2 Contractual Lecturers Association, who announced to continue the ongoing hunger strike till the Government concedes their demand.
They also threatened that if the Government does not concede their demand within ten days, some agitating members of the  Contractual Lecturers Association may attempt self immolation.
These Contractual Lecturers are demanding their regularization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a legislation passed for the regularization of all the Ad-hoc/ Contractual/ Consolidated employees.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 18 Contractual Lecturers began their chain hunger strike this morning for the next 24 hours. Those who sat on hunger strike, included Jeevan Kumar, Rakesh Khajuria, Surinder Kumar, Zabir Hussain Shah, Azrar Ahmed, Shafiqt Hussain Shah, Guftar Ahmed, Pankaj Sharma, Shokat Hussain, Balvinder Kour, Ramana Kumari, Kanchan Bala, Madhvi Sharma, Rajni Jamwal, Payal Rajput, Neelam Sharma and  Richa Maini.
