JAMMU, Mar 10: Panun Kashmir (PK) held a meeting of its Executive Council here, today which was presided over by its president, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo and the proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Kamal Bagati, general secretary (Org.). The meeting was attended by Virender Raina, working president PK and Chairman of its PAC, Upinder Kaul, general secretary, Ashok Chrungoo, treasurer, Sameer Bhat, convener-P K Youth, Vimla Chrungoo, Sneh Ganhar, Santosh Sharma, P.N.Pandita, Ravi Raina, Ankur Raina, Vineet Sikal and Vikram Singh.
It observed two minute silence to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their life over the last one month while fighting terrorism in the State. The meeting was informed that the annual Herath-Milan function was not held this year as a mark of respect to the Pampore martyrs.
It decided to appoint Shivdass Raina (Chandigarh) as the national coordinator, Panun Kashmir with immediate effect. Simultaneously, Nitendra Dhar (Jabalpur) was appointed the coordinator for the states of MP and Chattisgarh. It was also finalised to organise “Kashmiri Pandit Nirvasan Samvat” programme on the occasion of Baisakhi as usual.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president, PK in his address said that with the declaration of the general elections, the agenda of his organisation regarding the political and electoral process that has been pursued for the last four months, needs to be put into action. As persistent appeals have been made to the active political parties in the State to give their mandate only to a Kashmiri Pandit for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, the time has come for all to prove their intent, he added.
He said the intent has been thoroughly expressed by political personalities and political parties through the oft-repeated statement that “Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits”. It is for the political parties to prove their sincerity and honesty about their intent regarding the Kashmiri Pandit displaced community. “We have openly appealed all political parties to do the honours and have also written letters to them in this regard. This time Kashmiri Pandits need be given a clear cut opportunity to represent themselves in the Lok Sabha and the political parties are to come up to the expectations” Chrungoo added.
Virender Raina in his speech described the response of the Government to terrorism and its sponsors, Pakistan as the most apt and timely. It has not only raised the hope of the nation but has overrun the earlier image of a “soft State” as well. BJP under the able leadership of PM Narendra Modi has assumed the leadership of the nationalist forces and the Kashmiri Pandits in the process are the natural alleys of the nationalist forces, he added.
