SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Prof Saifuddin Soz, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, has said that the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) should be revoked in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.
As for my person is concerned, it is for several years that I have been consistent on the revocation of AFSPA,” he said in a press statement, issued here today.
Prof Soz recalled that he had discussed this matter in all seriousness with the then Union Home Minister P Chidambram, who was also convinced that this law was not needed at all and that it brought a very bad name to the country. However, despite this, Mr Chidambaram could not convince the Ministry of Defense for revocation of AFSA, which only promotes and deepens alienation in Kashmir, the Congress leader opined and wished that the New Delhi’s political class realizes the fact that this law is repugnant to the very idea of India and it must go, at the earliest.
