Aditya Joshi reaches quarters of Thailand Masters

Bangkok, Feb 9:
Former World No 1 junior, Aditya Prakash sailed into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Masters after notching up a straight-game win over his elder brother Pratul Joshi in men’s singles competition at the USD 120,000 Grand Prix Gold tournament here today.
The 20-year-old, who had clinched gold medals in 2011 Remensco Junior International in Russia and Asian Sub-Junior championship in Japan, saw off Pratul 21-19 21-10 in a 36-minute clash.
The Dhar lad will next take on Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen at Nimibutur Stadium.
Aditya, who had lost to Pratul at Bahrain International last year, fought back from 0-3 down to open up a 7-3 advantage in the opening game.
Pratul, however, made a good recovery as the duo fought for each point, moving neck and neck till 15-15. Aditya then surged ahead to a 20-16 lead. Pratul saved three game points before Aditya closed the game in his favour.
In the second, Aditya moved to a 4-1 lead and despite Pratul clawing back and leading 6-5, the 20-year-old zoomed ahead with giant steps to win the game and the match without much ado. (PTI)
