Srinagar, Apr 29: Former Chief Minister and president of opposition National Conference (NC) Dr Farooq Abdullah today stressed for end to Indo-Pak hostility, resumption of talks and described the situation in Kashmir as bad.
Speaking to workers meeting in Srinagar, Abdullah described the situation in Kashmir as bad. “Today, the Government lawyer (Advocate General) said we won’t talk to them (separatists).  Where have we reached? Today our children abandoned educational institutes and are on roads. Our future is in danger. Our future is our child.  If they won’t avail education and indulge in these things (stone-pelting and protests), it shows how bad is our situation”, he said.
The former Chief Minister stressed for end to animosity between India and Pakistan and resumption of talks. “There is no other way than talks. As much as bullets, bombs you fire, do everything but there is no other way than talks. And, pray to Allah that an atmosphere of friendship prevails among both the countries, not an atmosphere of animosity. In animosity, both the countries have danger, not only one”, he said.
The NC president lashed out at media for spreading hatred against Muslims. “Then see their television (national media): Twenty six CRPF men were killed at Chhattisgarh (by Naxals). They (media) didn’t make much noise on this unlike over the killing of three Army men at Kupwara (by Fidayeen attackers).  They beat drum, for what? To increase hatred against Muslims”, he said.
The former Chief Minister cautioned people about sowing discord by some elements. “Similarly, brothers and sisters, today another conspiracy is being hatched. Be cautious. Be united. It is not for one organization but all. If you have to save this State then there should be unity in this State. Here, Hindu, Sikh or Muslim should not be projected and stood separate. This won’t work. Allah had done a favour on this State: everyone had same rights. No one would have said that my rights have been crumbled. But today, a new atmosphere is being created and difference is being done. Discord is being sown among people. People have been ruined”, he said.
Abdullah said that Kashmir is being portrayed negatively which affects tourism of this place. “Today was the time all should have come. But the way they beat drums on television then who will come? Is angel of death only in Kashmir? Isn’t he out of Kashmir? He is everywhere in world. But a notion is being created and they think our lives are (their) livelihood. Allah is the provider”, he added.
The NC president said that blocking of internet will take Kashmir backwards as business and education of children these days is dependent on it. “Today they blocked internet, they blocked Facebook, Whatsapp. My children, whose life is on this internet, they do all their business on it. They buy goods on internet and sell them on it too. Where will these children go? I called Government and told them that for God’s sake don’t take those steps which we will take us backwards. It won’t change anything here. If they think by blocking internet things will improve here then they are mistaken. Then this issue won’t be resolved till they start talks with all”, he said.
Abdullah asked his workers to pray to God so that he can take us out of the morass. “They think they will suppress us by force but as much as they try to suppress, this fire will rage more. So, pray to God because we have none other than Him. We don’t have any guns, bombs but we have only God. First seek apology for your sins…and then ask him to get out of this morass in which we are trapped. There is no country in world where Muslims are on the verge of destruction because we abandoned Allah’s path and adopted Devil’s path”, he said.
