Abducted cop killed, cleric shot at

SRINAGAR, July 6: The policeman who was abducted by militants from Shopian district last evening was killed by militants and his body was found in neighboring Kulgam district this morning while militants hurled grenades at residence of a National Conference leader and at a security forces camp in Pulwama district today.
Two to three militants abducted the police constable Javid Ahmad Dar alias Judge Dar son of Abdul Hamid Dar outside his residence in Vehil village of Shopian last evening. He was taken to an unknown destination.

His bullet-riddled body was found at Pariwan village in neighbouring Kulgam district this morning. A police team immediately reached the spot and took the possession of the body for legal medico formalities. The cop was PSO of former SSP Shopian Shailendra Mishra.
On June 14, militants abducted an army man, Aurangzeb from Kalampora village of Pulwama. His body was later recovered from Gusoo village of the district.
A police spokesman said that the floral tributes were paid to the slain policeman at DPL Shopian. “The body of constable Javed Ahmad Dar was recovered from Pariwan village of Kulgam district at 7 am today,” the spokesman said. Dar, he said, was abducted by militants from his native village of Vehil Chatwatan in Shopian district late Thursday evening.
The wreath-laying ceremony of the martyred constable was held at District Police Lines Shopian where floral tributes were paid to him.
Militants today hurled a grenade at the residence of former National Conference (NC) MLA Mohammad Subhan Bhat in Tral township of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A grenade was hurled at the residence of Bhat in main town Tral at 2:50 pm. The grenade hit the roof of an adjoining house and exploded without causing any loss of life. The blast triggered panic in the area. The residence of the former legislator was attacked several times in the past.
Militants this evening hurled a grenade on a security force camp housing 182 Battalion of CRPF and 55 RR of Army at Tahab in South Kashmir district of Pulwama and fired indiscriminately. The security forces retaliated by firing towards the militants. However, they fled away after carrying out the attack in which no loss of life or injury was reported. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and conducted searches. However, no one was arrested.
And a 45-year-old man was shot at by unknown gunmen in Pulwama district of South Kashmir this morning. Gunmen fired upon Molvi Mohammad Ashraf Thoker at Parigam. Ashraf, a resident of Bijbehara, received multiple bullets in both the legs and was taken to nearby hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. Ashraf, according to reports, is an Imam (cleric) of a local Masjid in Parigam village.
And authorities today disallowed Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta in Srinagar by imposing restrictions in the area.
Contingents of Police and CRPF arrived in Nowhatta and adjoining areas in the morning and imposed restrictions. They laid barbed wire on main roads and sealed the Jamia Masjid and its neighbouring areas.
An official of the district administration said restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC were imposed in Old City areas as a precautionary measure.
To prevent the Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from delivering the weekly sermon at Jamia Masjid, authorities placed him under house arrest this morning at his Nageen residence.
And in the meantime, separatist leaders today called strike for Saturday against shifting of Aasiya Andrabi and her associates to Delhi by NIA.
Authorities postponed Social Studies paper of Term 1st examination for class 8th in Kashmir, Leh, and Kargil scheduled to be held tomorrow.
Director School Education Kashmir, Dr G.N. Itoo in a statement said that the Social Studies paper of Term 1st examination class 8th to be held across Kashmir Division, Leh and Kargil tomorrow (Saturday is postponed.
He said that the papers scheduled on 8th July are also postponed in Kashmir Division excluding Leh and Kargil where it shall be held as per schedule.
