Farooq giving misleading
statements Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 6: Exude confidence of retaining Jammu-Poonch seat, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Vaid Vishnu Dutt today aired apprehension that ruling National Conference may execute rigging in the militancy plagued areas to avert defeat of the National Conference candidate. Addressing a press conference, Mr Dutt alleged that some blue-eyed committed police and civil officers, experts in the nefarious task of rigging, have been transferred and posted in the far-flung areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts to accomplish this task. Vaid said that virtually violating the regulation and rules enforced by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, state administration has dispatched ballot boxes for the Jammu-Poonch constituency without incarving serial numbers on the ballot boxes. He alleged that these ballot boxes were dispatched only to execute scientific rigging in the elections especially in the constituencies of the Ministers. BJP candidate of Jammu-Poonch constituency has served a representation to the Chief Election Commissioner of India and registered their strong protest over the recovery of engraved ballot boxes. BJP candidate demanded deployment of security forces in these areas to frustrate nefarious designs of National Conference who was all bent to rig polls. Coming down heavily on Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah for giving misleading statements, Vaid made it clear that National Conference was not part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and there was no reason of National Conference to join Vajpayee led Government. "If any representation will be given to the State in the BJP Government, it will be elected representative of BJP not that of National Conference", he asserted and added that since its inception erstwhile Praja Parishad, Jan Sangh and present BJP has been opposing the policies of National Conference. "Farooq is giving misleading statements to befool the voters", he said and cautioned the people against these statements. Mr Dutt who conducted an extensive tour of the Poonch and Rajouri expressed anguish over the backwardness of these twin border districts and shifted all blames on the successive State Governments for meting out step-motherly treatment with the hilly districts of Jammu region. BJP candidate claimed that inhabitants of Poonch and Rajouri were fed up the anti-people policies of the State Government and they have decided to caste their votes in favour of the Bharatiya Janta Party. "Rampant corruption, red-tapism and militant activities became a routine affair in the regime of National Conference", he said and asked the people to teach a lesson to this anti-people Government for all its mis-deeds.He exuded confidence that BJP would improve its lead due to overwhelming support of the Muslims of these border districts. Highlighting miseries of the Gujjars and Bakarwals, BJP candidate demanded political reservation for these two communities who have been granted Scheduled Tribe status. Stoutly refuting allegations labelled against him, BJP candidate declared that he has spent Rs 98.944 lakhs from his Constituency Development Fund of Rs one crore. Launching a direct attack on National Conference candidate, Mr Rajinder Singh Chib, Dr Nirmal Singh, BJP spokesman accused NC candidate of hiring anti-social elements and ex-militants to rig the polls. Mr Singh alleged that some anti-social elements, supporters of NC candidate, have unleashed a reign of terror in the Miran Sahib and Simbal Camp areas to terrorise the BJP workers and supporters. Mr Singh, election incharge of Vaid Vaishu Dutt, demanded adequate security for the BJP workers. |

Past rulers looted
exchequer Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Sept 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Party nominee from Udhampur , Doda Parliamentary Constituency Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has blamed the National Conference (NC) leaders for misleading the people in general and Muslims in particular for over last 22 years. The BJP leader who completed his four day tour of the militancy infested Doda district said in past the NC mislead the people on the false and bogus slogans of plebiscite and now it is misleading them on the name of autonomy. He said there is a realisation among the masses that the erstwhile rulers of the Congress and now those of ruling National Conference (NC) have received huge funds from the Centre for the developmental activities and eradication of poverty and backwardness but instead of spending it on public welfare the money has gone into the pockets of the rulers. Prof Gupta said a wave of good will prevail in entire country for Prime Minister, Mr Atal Biharee Vajpayee and in Muslim dominated Doda district people have also a good feeling for him and his Party. He said the people are against the Congress and there is a great resentment against the ruling NC too for mounting corruption, lawlessness and unemployment. Prof Gupta asserted that there is a feeling in every section of the people that only a great leader like Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee can sort out the complicated problems like Kashmir and also bring an end to Pak sponsored militancy to have peace and friendship with the neighboring countries including Pakistan. He said it is the popularity of Mr Vajpayee and his sincere efforts to solve the contentious issues facing the country that Muslims are inclined towards the BJP and a large number of people in Doda district from the majority community are attending public meetings of BJP. He said many Muslims in this hilly district have also come into the BJP fold which clearly indicates that canards spread by Congress, National Conference and their agents that BJP is a non secular Party was not based on facts. |
Mehbooba demands repoll in Srinagar constituency SRINAGAR, Sept 6: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party nominee Mehbooba Mufti today demanded repoll in the entire Srinagar constituency alleging large-scale rigging by ruling National Conference with the connivance of Central Government and Election Commission. A formal request for repoll has been made to the Election Commission, Mehbooba told newsmen here. We did not see any central observer in the constituency, she charged. It was a pre-planned conspiracy in which the Central and State Governments and the Election Commission were party against her and police played the role of mere spectators, she charged. The ruling party, including Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and other party leaders, were involved in massive rigging in Chrar-e-Sharief, Badgam, Ganderbal and Kangan, she alleged, wondering how the poll percentage could suddenly shoot up between 3 pm to 5 pm. Questioning the poll percentage provided by the Election Commission, she said first it was stated that only 12 per cent of the electorate cast their votes but in Delhi it was later increased to 15 per cent. She said low voter turnout was not because of Hurriyat Conference call for poll boycott but was a result of disillusionment of the people, who had participated in the 1996 polls at the risk of their lives but had their dreams shattered by anti-people policies of the State Government.
