Talking to mediapersons here today, he alleged that Government vide a notification issued in local dailies on October 12 has fixed separate educational qualification for recruitment of soldiers and technical cadre in the army. Challenging the notification he said it is totally discriminatory towards the youth and people of Kathua district and Samba tehsil whose eligibility has been fixed matric while for the rest of the state youth the criteria is only middle. He said maximum portion of Kathua and Samba tehsil is a Kandi belt where the educational facilities are not available. He said the notification has been issued despite the fact the maximum recruitment in the army has come from these areas as compared to other parts of the state. He while recalling the contribution of the area in Army said the late Jamadar Parkash Singh who belonged to this belt had won Victoria Cross, the Highest Award in the World War Second. Besides him Late Brig Rajinder Singh who won the first Mahavir Chakar and renowned Gen. Baz Singh belonged to this belt. He said there were the hundreds of valiant soldiers from this belt who laid down their lives for the country. He said the area which has made a significant contribution in the army is proud of winning maximum number of military wards in all respects and it has a galaxy of decorated soldiers. He said keeping the facts in view the youth of the area should have been given incentives but it is quite amazing that they have been discouraged and discriminated against by fixing different yardsticks for their recruitment. He said a norm was fixed in the army that the Dogra youth will be given two inch relaxation in physical standard after producing a certificate from Tehsildar but this norm is not in practice now. Highlighting the problems of border migrants he said though a decision was taken at higher level the deserving people have been till date deprived of cash assistance and relief. He asked the authorities to release the relief immediately before the situation will take a critical turn.
