Mitigate problems

Sir,

The emergence of the regional parties may pose a threat to the formation of stable government at the Centre. The verdict 99 has again put a question mark on the formation of a stable government at the centre. A poor country like India cannot afford to bear the expenses of the repeated elections in crores. The expenses incurred on the Kargil conflict and the repeated elections have led to steep hike in the prices of essential commodities.

Gone are the days when Congress (I) used to get more than 400 seats of its own. Inspite of many achievements BJP has failed to cross the 200 seats in the last three elections. The poor performance of the BJP can be attributed to the compromise on its basic principles. BJP leadership promised the people that it will construct the Ram Temple, abrogate article 370 and introduce uniform civil code. BJP which was known for its principles now under pressure from its allies has compromised on all its issues.

The BJP leadership should open its eyes and work out for these issues at the earliest because the people are loosing their faith in BJP. Because of this reason BJP has suffered reverses in UP in the just concluded 13th Lok Sabha election. Mr Kalyan Singh has failed to mitigate the problems of the people of UP.

The people in large are enchanted by the bewitching leadership of Mr Vajpayee. Mr Vajpayee's role during the Kargil conflict and India's grand victory in the Kargil conflict has raised the image of Mr Vajpayee in particular and BJP in general.

The people of Jammu province are not happy with the performance of the State unit of BJP. The leadership of Mr Vaid Vishno Dutt was questioned before he filed his nomination papers for the 13th Lok Sabha election. People have by and large voted for Vajpayee. The two BJP MPs of Jammu have failed to pressurise the State Government to mitigate the problems of the people of Jammu province. The employees of the State Govt. have not got the second and third instalments of their pay arrears of 5th Pay Commission. The 10 percent DA instalment of Jan. and 5 percent DA instalment of July 1999 is still pending. This is a great injustice with the employees.

There is a lot of resentment among the employees. It is the right time for the BJP leadership to come at the rescue of the people and pressurise the State Government to solve the problems of the people.

Keep house in order

Sir,

This has reference to 'where stray dogs scare residents' published in the ''What Jammuites say'' page of Daily Excelsior dated 27.9.99. The highlighting of the problems of Trikutanagar by Mr Kaw is quite appreciating but one thing Mr R N Kaw has forgotten is about the functioning of the Trikutanagar Welfare Society itself. The reason for the total neglect of the colony is because of the malfunctioning of the society whose office bearers are holding the residents to ransom by not conducting the elections for the last more than a decade. Had the society not been practically and legally become defunct such ugly things would not have ever raised its head. It reminds me of the working of the Society about a decade back when the case of drainages etc was taken to the court and orders got issued to construct them within a time frame. The authorities at that time were taken to task for their negligence.

Unless we put our own house in order and make the society strong and powerful by inducing men who can spare time and have the capacity to fight for their rights, we would not expect the redressal of the grievances as expressed by the residents of Sector-6 through its committee. We are simply playing Hemlet without prince of Denmark and without setting our internal house in order is like putting the cart before the horse. Unless the radical changes are not made in the present set up and honest, dedicated persons with will and dash to work for a social cause are not induced in it, it can not become instrumental in forcing the Govt for orderly working and properly addressing the grievances of its people. For this the fresh elections is the only way and these were due many years back.

Look beyond

Sir,

Who can disprove the greatness of Congress party after having accredited itself with obtaining freedom for the country ostensibly through sheer efforts of Nehru clan, but in actual the outcome of Second World War. But for the Second World War which left the British economy shattered, freedom would not have come so soon; at least not during the lifetime of Nehru. Had the Second World War not happened, Nehru would have passed into history as one of the freedom fighters and not the only freedom fighter, as the Congress is projecting. It is an irony that, even today the Congress cannot look beyond Nehru clan for leadership may he/she be a foreigner.

History repeats itself is amply proved if we turn the pages of history. Prithvi Raj Chauhan befriended a foreigner only to loose his own kingdown. Nehru be friended Tibet only to win enemy in China, and loose huge chunks of land which continue to be under China's occupation even today. Indian history is replete with such instances and there is no need to elaborate on how Britishers occupied Indian throne. Now we have Sonia Gandhi who was be-friended by Rajiv Gandhi and day is not far off when we shall be foreigners in our own land. Beware countrymen prevention is better then cure, lest our posterity will curse us for the follies we commit today.

Yours etc...
