KV I Akhnoor retains U-19 Cricket trophy,
Football boys title goes to KV Bantalab

JAMMU, Oct 10: Except U-16 Cricket, all other events of Inter-KVs Jammu Cluster Sports ended today with KV No.I Akhnoor retaining the U-19 Cricket trophy and KV Bantalab taking home the boys Football title, final for which were held at different venues, here.

With this, the three-day meet which was being held at KV Samba, KV No.1 Gandhi Nagar and KV Kaluchak ended with colourful cultural programmes and prize distribution ceremony, this evening.

While, KV. No. 2 Jammu Cantt will hold the final of the Under-16 boys Cricket tomorrow and at the same time give away winners and runners up trophies.

It may be recalled that the competitions for boys were held at K V Samba and KV 2 Jammu Cantt, while KV 1 Gandhi Nagar and KV Kaluchak had organised the girls events.

SAMBA

The three-day meet for Hockey and Football ended here today with distribution of trophies and certificates among the participants by the Principal of the school, Mr A N Thaker, who was also chief guest on the occasion.

Football: In the final of the Football, KV Bantalab emerged victorious beating KV No.1 Akhnoor by two goals to nil. Gagan and Sandeep scored goal for the winners, while Anupam reduced the margin for KV No 1 Akhnoor.

In his address to the participants, the Principal congratulated the winners and said that they should keep constant stamina and sportsmanship.

Mrs Rajni Gupta, organiser for the Hockey and Football games thanked the 5-Grenadiers, who extended all out help during the competitions. The matches were conducted by Naik Dalip Singh, Naik Balbir Singh, Naik Kesar Singh in Hockey, while Hav Balbir Singh, Naik Mohd Ishak, concluded the football matches. Mrs Om Wali and Mrs Lalita Sharma were officials for scoring. While, S R Sharma presented vote of thanks.

KV KALUCHAK

Three-day long Jammu Cluster sports meet in the events of Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi for girl concluded with an impressive prize distribution prizes held at KV Kaluchak grounds this afternoon.

The Principal of the school, Mr S P Puri, earlier welcomed the chief guest Mr J S Chauhan, MD City Cable.

Students of the school presented cultural programme and PT which was highly appreciated by the distinguished gathering.

Mr Joginder Sigh red the report of Cluster sports meet in which 10 Vidyalayas had participated.

Mrs Chauhan, who was also present on the occasion gave away winners and runners-up trophies, besides certificates to the participants. Addressing the students, chief guest praised the students efforts and encouraged them to play with high spirits in the forthcoming competitions. In the end, he declared the meet closed.

Vote of thanks was presented by Mrs BB Thakur.

Mr Sanjay Rajesh Sharma, PET and Mr Sanjay Sharma, SUPW teacher conducted the competitions, while, Mr Khan of 26 RT Brigade extended his services during the meet. While Mrs Nirmal Bhasin took after the press and publicity during all these days.

Final results:

Kho-Kho: KV Miran Sahib defeated KV Kaluchak by one point in the final to lift the winners trophy. Earlier, in the semis, KV Miran Sahib beat KV No. 2 Jammu Cantt six points, while in another semi-final, KV Kaluchak bat KV No. 2 Akhnoor 10 points.

In the first round of the matches, KV No. 2 Jammu Cantt beat KV Bantalab; KV No 2 Akhnoor beat K V Samba by one point; KV Miran Sahib beat KV No.2 Jammu Cantt by nine point and Kv No. 2 Akhnoor beat KV Nagrota by one point.

Kabaddi: KV Kaluchak beat KV Miran Sahib five points to claim the glittering winners trophy. Earlier, in the semi-finals, KV Miran Sahib beat KV No.2 Akhnoor by 26 points, while KV Kaluchak beat KV No.2 Akhnoor by 16 points.

In the first found of matches, KV No 2 Jammu Cantt beat KV Bantalab by 17 points; KV No 1 Akhnoor beat KV Nagrota by 32 points; KV Miran Sahib beat KV No 2 Jammu Cantt by 14 points; KV Kaluchak beat KV Domana by 26 points and KV No 2 Akhnoor beat KV Samba by 14 points.

Volleyball: KV No 1 Jammu Cantt lifted the title beating KV Kaluchak 2-0 (15-4, 15-13) in the final which played today. Earlier, in the semi-finals, KV Kaluchak beat KV No 1 Akhnoor 2-0 (15-4, 15-11) and KV No 1 Gandhi Nagar beat KV No 2 Jammu Cantt 2-0 (15-2, 15-12).

KV 1 GANDHI NAGAR

Prizes were distributed among the winners and runners up teams in the girls sections in a simple function, here this afternoon. The school had hosted the events of Hockey, Basketball, Handball, Badminton and Table Tennis for girls.

The host KV No. 1 emerged winner in the events of Hockey, Handball and Basketball. In Hockey they beat KV Samba, while in Handball they outplayed KV Bantalab. In Basketball, KV 1 Gandhi Nagar had defeated KV No 2, Jammu Cantt.

Whereas, in the events of Table Tennis and Badminton, KV No. 2 Akhnoor lifted the winners trophies.

The meet was declared closed the Principal of the school, Mr M L Sondhi. Mrs Amrit Kour, senior PGT, Mr J R Gupta, sports incharge and Mrs Sukhwinder Kaur conducted the events.

JAMMU CANTT

Cricket U-19: KV 1 Akhnoor retained the Under-19 year cricket trophy beating their arch rival KV 2 Jammu Cantt by two wickets in the final which played at Jammu Cantt today.

Earlier, after winner the toss and decided to bat first, KV 2 Jammu Cantt was all out at 99 in 18.1 overs. Dinesh was the highest scorer with 15 off 14 deliveries including two boundaries, while Abhimanyu and Rahul contributed nine and eight runs respectively. Thanks to extras, which added maximum of 36 runs bringing the score to a respectable total.

From Akhnoor, Parmodh and Arvind took three wickets each for eight, while Shashi and Zamil bagged shared one each.

Chasing the total, KV 1 Akhnoor attained their goal for the loss of eight wickets sparing 4.2 overs. in the 20 overs match. Ajay was the main scorer from Akhnoor, who scored 26 runs hitting one six and three boundaries, while Dheeraj contributed valuable 12 runs.

Ashwani bowled excellent and claimed six wickets for 15 in four overs. Whereas, Harpreet took two for 20 for Jammu Cantt.

Cricket U-16: In the under-16 boys, KV No. 2 Jammu Cantt and KV Bantalab entered into the final and will meet each other tomorrow for the title.

Earlier, in the first semi-final, KV Bantalab beat KV Miran Sahib by six runs to reach final. KV Bantalab set a target of 89 runs in 10 overs for the loss of five wickets. Rahul Bhat and Pradeep scored 27 off 25 and 16 off 14 for Bantalab.

From Miran Sahib, Vishal and Ajay shared two wickets each for 10 and 11 runs respectively.

In reply, Miran Sahib could score 83 runs in complete 10 overs for the loss of four wickets. Gaganjit with 26 off 21 (n.o) and Vishal 17 off 20 were the main scorers. While, from Bantalab, Rahul and Pretesh bagged one wicket each.

In second semi-final, KV No 2 Jammu defeated KV Kaluchak by nine wickets. Batting first, Kaluchak was all out at 64 in 9.1 overs. Jagvir scored 16 off 16 balls. Amandeep made hattric, while Kunal took three wickets for Jammu Cantt, while Rama bagged two for six.

Chasing the target, Jammu Cantt scored 68 in the 7.1 overs for the losing only wicket of Neeraj. Abijan took the only wicket for six runs in 1.1 overs.

Vishal Dangal in memory of Sobha Ram at Katra
Wrestlers of national, international repute to participate

KATRA, Oct 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Indian Style Wrestling Association organising 11th Vishal Dangal at holy town of Katra in memory of Late Sobha Ram from October 24.

The final decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the Public Dangal Committee, Katra under the chairmanship of Mr Shiv Kumar Sharma, president and chairman selection committee of Jammu and Kashmir Indian Style Wrestling Association, here yesterday.

It will be a national level dangal, wherein wrestlers from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Railways and Border Security Force (BSF), besides renowned wrestlers from J&K. Some wrestlers of international repute are also going to participate.

Talking to EXCELSIOR after the meeting, Mr Shiv Kumar Sharma said that it was unanimously decided in the meeting that Mr Sohan Singh, who is veteran wrestler, NIS coach, international referee and general secretary of the Punjab State Wrestling Association will be the chairman of the technical committee. Whereas, Mr Sharma himself will be the secretary of the organising committee.

The meeting also decided that wrestlers will be provided free food, accommodation and to and fro fare, besides other attractive prizes.

First winner will be awarded with Silver Gurj, Patta and handsome cash prize, besides a title- Rustam-e-Katra, said Mr Sharma.

The Dangal which is bring organised by the J&K Indian Sytle Wrestling Association, getting active cooperation from the public of Katra.

Those who were present in the meeting include Messrs Ashok Kumar, Ashu Magotra, Sat Pal, Vidya Sagar, Om Raj, Jugal Kishore(Sonu), Balwan Singh, Krishan Lal, Shanker Dass and R S Manhas.

Harbans Memorial Hockey tourney from Oct 12

JAMMU, Oct 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association, Jammu led by Mr J S Raina is organising Harbans Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament from October 12 at GHP School, Nanak, here.

Earlier the tournament was proposed to be held in the month of November, and same has been preponed because of the forthcoming Sub-junior National Hockey Championship a handout issued here said.

The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held today. The meeting also decided to hold District Hockey Championship for juniors and seniors during November-December this year.

It was also decided to hold a seminar of state umpires and senior players, besides examination of umpires in collaboration with J&K Umpires Association in the coming months.

The meeting also discussed that in order to develop the game of hockey availability of playing fields at every district headquarters and in some rural areas be ensured. The members present desired that the president of the association should take up this issue with the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah.

Tawi Trekkers to honour medal winners in NZ

JAMMU, Oct 10: To encourage the sport Climbers in the state, Tawi Trekkers (J&K) has decided to honour those who have won medals at the North-Zone Sport Climbing competitions which held in Delhi, recently.

The gold medal winners will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 5,000, while silver and bronze medal winners will be given a cash award of Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively, a handout issued here said.

It was also announced that the gold medal winners in any category in the forthcoming National Climbing competition will be given a cash award of Rs. 10,000, while, Silver and Bronze medal winners will get Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Anurag wins first position in painting competition

JAMMU, Oct 10: Anurag Bali, a budding painter has won first position in on the spot paining competition organised by the Wild Life Department on the other day. In all, 25 different schools had participated in the competitions.

Anurag, who is a student of 8th class of Sarswati Shishu Niketan, Jammu has more than 25 first prizes to his credit in different painting competitions.

Last year, he won gold medal in the All India Painting Compassion organised by the ‘Young India’ in Bombay.

JAMMU, Oct 10: Amit Anand and Arun Sharma guided Rotaract to a big 84 runs victory over Interns in the ongoing Rohit Bhat Memorial Cricket Tournament being played at Medical College grounds, here today.

Batting second after winning the toss, Rotaract led by Dushyant Choudhary set a target of 160 runs which was highest in the ongoing tournament for the loss of four wickets in allotted 20 overs. Amit Anand contributed highest 45 runs, while Arun Sharma added 43 runs.

From Interns, Ishfaq bagged two wickets.

Batting second, Interns, who were led by Ishfaq all out at 76 in the 19th over. Vikas was the maximum scorer with 27 runs, while Surinder added 11. Gurdev, Dr Rishi and Dr Shuja took two wickets each for Rotaract.

In another match of the day, Thunderbolt Club outplayed RDX Club by 39 runs to enter the second round.

Earlier, after winning the toss and decided to bat first, Thunderbolt scored 108 runs for the loss of nine wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Dr Kulwant played a fine inning of 44 runs.

From RDX, Vipin and Rashid took two wickets each.

Chasing the target, RDX could reach a total of 69 when all their batsmen out in 19th over. Manav was the highest scorer with 18 runs.

Dr Dheeraj of Thunderbolt took five wickets for seven runs restricting RDX at a small total. Thunderbolt was led by Dr Narinder, while Dr Ravi Parihar led the RDX.

BSF beat Richi Land to enter Hockey final

JAMMU, Oct 10: Border Security Force (BSF) registered 3-0 victory of over Richi land Sports Club in the first semi-finals to find berth in the finals of the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hockey Tournament being played here, today.

In the first half both sides could not able to scorer any goal. But, after the breather, the situation remained the same as both sides made a number of unsuccessful attempts. It was only in the 48th minute, when BSF succeeding in making a goal through D Kando. Second goal came in the 65th minute again through Kando in the 65th minute.

Two goals lead taken by BSF boosted their morale and they were resorted to an attacking game which resulted into awarding a couple of plenty corners to both sides.

In the last 69th minute of the match, BSF struck again and hit their third goal through Nishan Singh to enter the final in style.

In the second semi-final tomorrow, Khalsa Sports Club will be playing with Ranjit Club, Gole Gujral.

The tournament is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association under the supervision of Jagjit Singh, general secretary.

JAMMU, Oct 10: Karan Nagar Cricket Club (KNCC) defeated ACC by 39 runs to entered the quarter-finals of the ongoing Prem Memorial Cricket Tournament being held here.

KNCC batting first set a target of 99 for the loss eight wickets in allotted 16 overs. Barta scored 25, while Kulbhushan and Inderjeet contributed 19 and 16 runs respectively. Deepak added 10 runs.

For ACC, Smarty and Gari claimed two wickets each, while Pola and Deepu took one each.

Chasing the target, ACC collapsed at 60 runs in 11.5 overs. Nikku scored 13 and Gari 10 runs. No other batsmen could enter the double digit mark.

Amit took two wickets, while Kulbhushan and Surjeet one each for KNCC.

Kulbhushan was declared man of the match.

The tournament is being organised by Messrs Raju and Sandhu.

JAMMU, Oct 10: Sahibzada Fateh Cricket Club (SFCC) outplayed Rajput Cricket Club (RCC) by 22 runs in the Paramjeet Memorial Day-night Cricket Championship being played here, today.

Earlier, batting first SFCC scored 90 runs for the loss of eight wickets in complete 15 overs. Shashi-19, Rajat-10, Pamma-26 and Dhrub-11 were the main scores.

Ajit and Kuljeet bagged three and two wickets respectively from RCC.

Chasing the total, RCC lost all the wickets at 68 in 13.5 overs. Ropi and Ajit contributed 17 and 12 runs respectively, while Raji added nine.

From SFCC, Manu claimed three wickets, while Rimpu and Sameer bagged two each.

In another match of the day, Sonnet Cricket Club (SCC) beat Wonder Cricket Club (WCC) by 31 runs to qualify for the quarters. Batting first, Varinder with his brilliant knock of 41 helped SCC to set a target of 100 runs for seven in allotted 14 overs.

Rinku and Vicky were other main scorers with 25 and 15.

From WCC, Ravinder took two wickets, while Amjad, Raj Singh and Happy shared one each.

Batting second, WCC lost all the wickets at 69. Happy and Shamsher were the highest scorers with 14 and 17 runs respectively. While Vicky took five wickets for eight in 3.3 overs and was declared man of the match. Manu and Rinku shared two wickets each.
