Jammu, Pathankot girls share honours
in Inter-KVs Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: Jammu Cluster (Zone) lifted the girls Inter-Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) Regional level under-16 cricket trophy on the average basis on the final day of the three-day meet which held at KV Kaluchak here. In the under-19 year category, Pathankot cluster emerged winner defeating Jammu cluster in their final league encounter. Jammu cluster which was represented by KV Kaluchak in the under-16 category lost its final league tie against K V Dharmshala. Both the sides after their three matches got four points each, but on the basis of average, winners trophy went to Jammu cluster KV Kaluchak. In the final league encounter, Dharmshala won by four wickets. KV Kaluchak after winning the toss and opted to bat scored 55 runs in 10 over for the loss of four wickets. Luxmi scored 16, while Suman, Meenakshi, Sushma and Sonika contributed three, two, three and two runs respectively. Ravinder and Sushma took three and one wicket respectively for K V Dharmshala. Chasing the target, Dharmshala reached their target in the ninth over losing their six wickets. Ambika was the maximum scorer with 10 runs and remained not out, while Rimpu and Ravinder added five runs each. From Kaluchak, Meenakshi and Sonika shared two wickets each, while Divya and Luxmi bagged one each. In the under-19 category, K V Pathankot beat Jammu Cluster to take home the winners trophy. Earlier, Deputy Commandant, 26 Artillery Brigade, Col. J R Sharma, who was chief guest in the concluding function gave away winners and runners-up trophies. Principal, KV Kaluchak, Mr S P Puri also spoke on the occasion. Students of the school presented cultural programme on the occasion. Master Shatnu presented a sweet solo song. Later, vote of thanks was presented by Ms Bala Thakur (PGT), while Mr Joginder Singh presented report of the tournament. Mr Anil Sharma was press and publicity incharge, while Ms Ranju Oswal, TGT (Hindi) looked after the outstation teams during the Regional level Cricket meet. |
Seniors win opening tie in Rohit Memorial Cricket Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: Seniors Cricket Club won the inaugural match of the Rohit Bhat Memorial Cricket Tournament beating Rotracts Club by 25 runs at Government Medical College grounds, here today. Batting first, after winning the toss, Seniors Club set a target of 146 runs for the loss of five wickets in allotted 15 overs. Skipper, Sandeep Singh, gave his side a big total with his quick fifty. He scored 54 runs off 42 delivers including nine boundaries and two sixes. Gagan Bali, Vishal and Ishrat contributed 27, 19 and 15 runs respectively. Amit and Gurdev claimed two wickets each for Rotracts Club. In reply, Rotracts club could reach 121 runs mark in the allotted overs losing eight wickets. Amit Anand was the highest scorer with 22 runs, while Amit Bhagat contributed 24. From Seniors, Deep Aman made hattric, all the three outgoing batsmen were stumped by alert Satish Parihar. D P Singh took two wickets. Earlier, the Principal, Medical College, Dr H L Goswami bowled the first delivery to declare the tournament open. A number of senior doctors, Head of the Departments and other faculty members were present on the occasion. In all, ten teams comprising of Medical College students and doctors are participating in the tournament which has been divided into two pools. Rohit Bhat, in whose memory the tournament is being organised was third year student of the Medical College. He was killed in a tragic road accident, last year. |

Jammu Cluster sports meet begins Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: Annual Inter-Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) Jammu Cluster (Zone) sports meet for nine different events began at three different venues of KV Kaluchak, KV Samba and KV No.II, Jammu Cantt, here this morning. The three-day competitions have also been started simultaneously at other zones of Udhampur, Pathankot and Himachal Pradesh which falls in North Zone of the country. The KV No. II, Jammu Cantt is hosting the four events of Cricket (boys under-16 and 19 years groups), Table Tennis, Badminton and Basket. While, KV Kaluchak has been assigned the job to hold competitions for girls in the events of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Volleyball. Two major events of Hockey and Football are underways at KV Samba. KALUCHAK: the tournament was declared open by officiating Assistant Commissioner, Jammu Mr B D Sharma. In all, ten team drawn from different KVs including KV Kaluchak; K V No. I, Gandhi Nagar; K V No. II, Jammu Cantt; KV Miran Sahib; KV Samba, KV No.I, Akhnoor, KV No.2, Akhnoor; KV Nagrota, KV Bantalab; K V Domana are participating in the competitions. Principal of the school, welcomed the distinguished guest participants and escorts teachers. He urged the participants to play with true sportsman spirit during their three-day long competitions. No final results came from Kaluchak till the filing of this report. SAMBA: An impressive function was held at KV Samba where Col. G S Soodan, Deputy Commandant 168 Infantry Brigade inaugurated the meet at 5-Grenadiers Stadium in the morning. In his brief speech, the chief guest asked the participants to play with full zeal and enthusiasm. The head boy of the Vidyalaya took the Oath after a colourful march past by the participating teams holding their Vidyalaya flags. Principal, K V Samba, Mr A N Thaker welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion and highlighted the importance of the sports. Around 180 students from eight Vidyalayas of Jammu Cluster are taking part. SAMBA: KV Samba is organising competitions for Hockey and Football. Hockey KV Samba beat KV Bantalab; KV No. II Akhnoor beat KV Kaluchak and KV No. II Jammu Cantt beat KV No. I Akhnoor. KV Akhnoor beat KV Samba, enter final Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Akhnoor outplayed Kendriya Vidyalaya Samba by five runs in the inaugural cricket match in the under-19 year category at KV No.II, Jammu Cannt, today. Batting first after winning the toss and decided to bat first, Akhnoor scored 86 runs in stipulated 12 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Sikander played heroic inning of 33 runs including two sixes and three boundaries. Left-arm spinner Lokesh took four wickets, while Suresh bagged three wickets making hattric for Samba. In reply, KV Samba unable to attained their target and could reach 81 runs in 12 overs for the loss of six wickets. Binny was highest scorer with 29 runs. Sikander and Sashi claimed two wickets each. K V Bantalab defeats Nagrota by two wkts to enter semis In another match of the day, K V Bantalab defeated K V Nagrota by two wickets in a close finish. Club sails into 3rd round of Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: Amphalla Cricket Club sailed into the third round of the ongoing Prem Memorial Day-night Cricket Tournament beating Leh and Kargil Cricket Club by three wickets here today. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss and decided to bat first, Leh and Kargil Club scored 46 runs in 13.1 overs. Nazir scored highest 11, while Parvez(senior) and Parvez (junior) contributed nine and seven runs respectively. From Amphalla Club, Sanjeev clinched four wickets and Inder, two. While, Fomi and Pawan shared one wicket. Chasing the target, Amphalla Club made a confident start, but a spell of good bowling by Shabir restricted the batsmen from scoring at will. Runs came slow and at one stage victory appeared difficult for the team. But, Sanjeev and Fomi played well and achieved the target in 11th over for the loss of seven wickets. Fomi scored 10 runs while Sanjeev added eight. Shabir was the most successful bowler from Amphalla Club clinching two wickets. Nazir and Javed shared one wicket each. Sanjeev was declared man of the match for his all round performance. |

YSS Field staff extend support to teachers Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: All Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and Sports Field Staff Association in a meeting held today extended their support to the examination boycott call given by the Teachers Forum. The president of the association has appealed all the field staff members to ensure complete examination boycott. The meeting which was attended by all the district heads of the Association has also directed all the Physical Education Teachers and Masters not to attend any domestic and national level sports activities untill their demands are conceded by the Government. The Physical teachers and Masters are demanding promotions in their cadre. |

Cricket Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 8: Brilliant knock of 46 runs and three wickets Kulwinder Singh helped Kobra Cricket Club (KCC) to beat Vishal Cricket Club (VCC) by 46 runs in the ongoing Paramjeet Singh Memorial Day-night Cricket Championship being played at Girls High School, Bakshi Nagar, here today. Kulwinder Singh, who came fourth down, played a brilliant inning of 46 runs facing only 29 balls including two sixes and three boundaries. He also took three wickets for 12 in his spell of three over, thus stalling the VCCs innings at 580. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, KCC set a target of 104 runs in allotted 14 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Kishore was the second highest scorer after Kulwinder with 32 runs in his account off 31 balls hitting one six and two boundaries. For VCC, Lucky bagged two wickets, while Johny and Nitij shared one each. Batting second, VCC lost all the wickets at 58 in 10.2 overs. Mohit made maximum 14 runs, while, Johny and Nitij contributed eight and seven runs respectively. Kulwinder was the most successful bowler from VCC. He took three wickets for 12, while Nikhil, Vinod and Rakesh bagged one each. Kulwinder was declared man of the match. In another match, Shiksha Bhawan Senior Cricket Club defeated Hitman Cricket Club by 72 runs. Shiksha Bhawan scored 123 runs for seven in 12 overs. In reply, Hitman was all out at 51 in 11.5 overs. The third match was played between Rajput Cricket Club and Shiksha Bhawan Junior Cricket Club by 58 runs. Rajput Club scored 158 for two in 14 overs. Shiksha Club could reach 99 in complete 14 overs for the loss four overs. |
