JAMMU, Nov 26: Massive campaign by the leaders of Employees Joint Action Committee for one day Kaam-Chhor Hartal on November 30 concluded today in Jammu city, which has been divided into three zones, namely East Zone, Pul Par Zone and Canal Zone.

According to a press release issued by the J&K Government Employees Joint Action Committee, the campaigning team of the East Zone will be led by Mr Mohammed Ghafoor Dar, president J&K National Trade Union Front and Central Committee members of the EJAC. The other senior leaders of the team included Mr Kamal Kishore Bhardwaj, Yash Pal, Darshan Magotra, Mohammed Amin Mir, Parminder Singh, Swaran Singh, Chaman Lal Sangotra, Rachpal Singh.

The Pul Par team will led by Mr Girdhari Lal Chanda and Mr Subash Chander. The other members of team included Suman Sharma, Parladh Singh and Sham Lal.

The Canal team will be comprised of Mr Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Rakesh Bhan, Amrik Singh, Joginder Singh, Arun Moza, Mushtaq Khan and Marks Gill.

While addressing the employees in various office complex at Jammu city, Messrs Mohammed Gafoor Dar, Girdhari Lal Chanda, Pardeep Kumar Sharma, Lekh Raj Khajuria, Subash Chander, Mohammed Maqbool, Vishav Rattan Baru and Satish Sharma stressed upon the Government employees to observe complete Kaam Chor Hartal on November 30 and joined in thousands in the massive rally organised by the EJAC at Press Club, Exhibition Ground on Nov 30.

However, according to a separate press release, one day session of the representatives of the Confederation of Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees Association was held at Jammu under the chairmanship of Mr Girdhari Lal Chanda, president to discuss future course of action.

Meeting decided to fully support the one day Kaam Chore Hartal call given by the EJAC on November 30 for the implementation of the agreement of January 1999, release of the 2nd installment of the 5th Pay Commission arrears, regularisation of the daily wagers, authenticity of GP Fund statements, release of the two installments of DA and enhancement of the wages of the Daily Wagers.

Mr Sham Lal, president Jammu and Kashmir Non-Teaching Association, Prem Singh and Jasbir Singh, president and general secretary, State Employees Association, Diyal Chand Khajuria, J&K Ministerial Staff Association, Ganesh Khajurai, president Graduate and Post-Graduate Teachers Forum, Ravi Kumar and Prem Singh, secretary and advisor of Animal Husbandry Association, K C Gupta, Design Directorate, Partap Singh, Durga Dass, K S Khalsa and others addressed the meeting.

Proposed General Council meeting of LAHDC postponed

LEH, Nov 26: The proposed General Council meeting of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh which was scheduled to be held on November 25 and 26th has been postponed and now held on November 27 and 28. The meeting was scheduled to be held to discuss and finalize the draft plan of the district for the year 2000-2001.

According to a press release, the decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) held today under the chairmanship of Mr Thupstan Chhewang, chairman of the Council.

The decision to postpone the meeting was taken by voice vote of the majority of the Council members in order to provide opportunity to study the draft plan for the next year by all the Councilors.

In today’s meeting, the Councilors highlighted various problems and issues concerning their respective constituencies regarding water supply, medical facilities, surface transports, electricity and other basic amenities of the life.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman exhorted upon the Councilors to study the draft plan of the district for year 2000-2001 properly and suggest measures for improvement in the plan. He said the draft plan will be placed before the General Council House on November 27 and 28 for discussions.

Besides, the Executive Counci-lors, the meeting was attended by Mr T Dorje, MLA and the Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC, Mr N K Chowdhary.

The Addl Deputy Commissioner, Mr T Angchuk and some senior district officers also attended the meeting.

Medical event at Pathankot on December 4, 5

JAMMU, Nov 26: A medical mega-event of the millennium is being organised at Pathankot by the Association of Surgeons of Pathankot on December 4 and 5 in which galaxy of luminaries and experts in the field of Endo-Surgery, Endo-Gynae, Endo-Urology and Arthroscopy will demonstrate at one place, under the one roof.

According to a press release, live demonstration of Laparoscopic Surgery will be also conducted on December 4 in the premises of 167, Military Hospital, followed by proposed CME-99 of outstanding academic standards on December 5 which will include AIDS, nuclear warfare, polytrauma, diagnostics, endoscopic procedures and Consumers Protection Act by eminent speakers of national and international repute.

Dr Y P Gandotra, Hony Secretary of the Association of the Surgeons of Pathankot informed that the Organising Committee is striving hard to make this endeavour a grand success in which about 400 delegates are expected to attend from India and abroad.

SBI employees start collection counter for cyclone victims

JAMMU, Nov 26: State Bank of India Staff Association and Officers Association have opened a collection counter at Hari Market, Branch for cyclone victims of Orissa where thousands of persons have died and lakhs of persons have become shelterless.

In the hour of National Calamity, an appeal was issued to all the employees of State Bank of India in particular and people of all walk of life in general to come forward in the hour of shape for their brethern of Orissa and donate liberally in the shape of clothings, foodgrains, dry milk powder, medicines, polythene sheets and any other items which shall provide some relief to the cyclone victims.

The collection counter shall remain open on all working days and the goods so collected shall be transported directly to Orissa Cyclone Victims where it will be distributed through the employees of State Bank of India.

Govt to ban sale of loose edible oil

JAMMU, Nov 26: To eliminate apprehension of adulteration in edible oil, Government will put ban on the sale of edible oil in loose form shortly.

This was disclosed at a joint meeting of the representatives of Edible Oil Manufacturers and Retailers Associations held under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Food and Supplies, Mr Ajay Sadhotra here today.

It was stated that edible oil should be sold in packed pouches ranging from 50 gram packs to onwards. In this context, local oil millers sought time to prepare their millers for such packing. It was decided that the edible oil should be allowed to be sold in loose forms for six months period only and thereafter no trader should be allowed to sell this oil in loose form.

The federation of retailers association appreciated the move and assured their full co-operation from the business community to the Government in the implementation of the decision.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sadhotra said that the Government is making all out efforts to ensure the availability of quality products to the consumers. He appealed to the consumers and business community to extend their full co-operation to the Government so that the policy of the State Government for ensuring quality goods to the people is implemented in true letter and spirit.

The meeting among others was attended by the Commissioner/Secretary, Food and Supplies, Mr R K Jerath, President Retailers Association, Mr Yash Paul Gupta, edible oils Manufacturers Association, Mr Sansar Chand and several other representatives of these associations.

4 Additional Judges take oath

JAMMU, Nov 26: The Chief Justice of the J&K High Court, Mr Justice Bhawani Singh administered an oath to the four additional judges of the State High Court here this morning.

Mr Justice A M Mir, Mr Justice T S Doabia, Mr Justice R C Gandhi, Mr Justice A K Goel, Mr Justice M Y Qwoosa, Judges of the subordinate courts and Members of the Bar Association were present on the occasion.

The Registrar General of the J&K High Court Syed Imtiyaz Hussain readout the notification appointing Mr Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakroo for a period of three months, Mr Justice O P Sharma and Mr Justice Girdhari Lal Raina till they attain the age of 62 years, besides Mr Justice Syed Bashir-ud-Din for a period of two years as additional judges of the J&K High Court by the President of India.

The Registrar General also readout the authorisation letter of His Excellency, the Governor of J&K State, Mr Girish Chander Saxena authorising the Chief Justice to administer an oath to the additional judges of the High Court.

Desperate father's appeal to Farooq

JAMMU, Nov 26: A desperate father from Andhra Pradesh has sought the help of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah in tracing his teenaged daughter lost in Ramasamudram Chittoor in September last.

V Munivenkatappa of R Kothuru village in Ramasamudram Mandal, Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh has written to the Chief Minister that his daughter, Chiranjeevi V Bhuvanswari, 12 left for her Z P High School Ramasamudram on September 7 last and did not return home till date.

Despite frantic efforts, Munivenkatappa could not trace his daughter, reading in seventh class, though a FIR stands lodged in an local Andhra Pradesh police station.

On the instructions of Dr Abdullah, the Chief Minister's Office has sought the help of media in tracing the girl by displaying her photograph in electronic and print media.

massive demonstration

JAMMU, Nov 26: The All J&K Low Paid Employees Federation today organised a massive protest demonstration at Shalamar Chowk to lodge protest against failure of the State Government to fulfill their long pending demands.

The agitating employees have been demanding two installments of DA due from January and July this year, second installments of the 5th Pay Commission arrears, COLA for public sector employees, regularisation of daily wagers, release of the wages of the daily wagers, convening of the Divisional and State level DPC for all categories in PDD, restoration of the SRO-43 in its original form and other demands.

Addressing the employees, speakers criticised the State Government for its failure to accept demands of the employees. They said that State Government, has miserably failed to recover 1200 crores legitimate Sale Tax arrears of one decade in the Valley from big business houses.

Mr Shakti Gupta, Sayed Ashraf Qadin, Nisar Ali Mir, Gh Mohammed Khan, Mohammed Maqbool Rather, A R Mir, D N Warikoo, Yashpaul, Sugreeb Singh, Shiv Kumar, R R Prabakar, Surinder Chowdary, Preetam Singh, Saroop Singh, Joginder Paul, Balwan Singh, Sunil Handoo and other employees leader declared full support to the striking Power Development Department employees.

Mr Sampat Prakash, president All J&K Employees Federation in his concluding speech at Shalamar Chowk declared that 4 lacs Government employees of the State are fully organised for a Statewide action in near future to bring down Farooq Government.

Later in a memorandum to the authorities, provincial president of the PPEU, highlighted problems being faced by the daily wagers of the PDD.

Earlier, a PDD employees observed one day strike and organised massive rally was organised in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, Power Development Department at Canal Head.

Addressing the rally, Mr Shakti Gupta, provincial president of the PPEU, regretted that despite repeated assurances authorities have not take any concrete step to mitigate miseries of the daily wagers.

He lamented that daily wagers, who are back-bone of the Power Development Department are neglected by the State Government. He added that daily wagers have not been paid their wages for months together. He appealed to the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah to come forward for the rescue of the PDD daily wagers and save them from starvation.

However, the Provincial Power Employees Union has decided to continue their strike call for indefinite period.

Talking to EXCELSIOR, Mr Shakti Gupta, provincial president, said that toll-down/pen-down strike would continue till demands of the employees would be fullfilled.

Seminar on AIDS organised

JAMMU, Nov 26: Social Welfare organisation block Satwari organised a seminar of AIDS in Gulmohar Public School, Bhour Camp near here today.

As per a release, Dr Kamal Singh, Deputy Director was the chief guest on the occasion.

The doctors threw light on AIDS transmitting media, symptoms of the disease and preventive measures to be taken.

They said the AIDS virus can be present in the body for over 10 years without producing any outward sign of illness and added that major symptoms of the HIV infected body is a severe wasting syndrome, resulting in substantial weight loss, diarrhoea and fever.

Stressing on the preventive measures the doctors said that sexual intimacy should be restricted to one person.

Dr Kamal Singh threw light on latest development in AIDS while Dr Manjit Singh, president Field Doctors Association Jammu Province and Dr Rakesh Sharma discussed the social as well as medical aspects of the AIDs.

Dr A K Kotwal, BMO Parmandal, Dr M L Gupta and Dr Daljit Singh were the other participants in the seminar.

Mr Mohinder Ranjoor, secretary of the organisation while highlighting the health problem of the people demanded setting up of Primary Health Centre building at Bhour Camp. Others who addressed include Messrs Lekh Raj Khajuria and Bhagat Singh.

Natraj Natya Kunj presents cultural bonanza at Abhinav

JAMMU, Nov 26: In connection with observance of National Integration Day, Natraj Natya Kunj Jammu presented a cultural bonanza "Kala Sangam 99" at Abhinav Theatre here today.

Four hundred students from different schools performed in the showwhich gave dimensions in the field of folk singing, folk dance and fancy dress.

The function was inaugurated by Mr Abdul Gani Naseem, Chairman National Panchayat for Educational Welfare J&K Chapter and Mr Nisar Ahmed Khan Minister of Agriculture was the chief guest on the occasion. They gave away the prizes among winning students which were sponsored by Amul.

In the Fency dress competition Samridhi Mahajan of Vimal Public School stood first while Ankush Gupta of MIER was declared second. The third prize were bagged by Mrinalni Gupta and Pranav Jain belonging to Unique Dancing Institute and Cooperative Public School Jullaka Mohalla.

In folk singing first, second and third prizes were bagged by Charitra Rekha of Abhey Public School Muthi, Neha Nargotra, Akankshi Sharma of Shangrilla Public School and Ritika Choudhary of Co-operative Public School respectively.

In folk dance first prize was bagged by Dhol of Sai Montessori School, second prize was bagged by Abhey Public School, Muthi and third prize was bagged by Trikuta Public School, Katra. Besides this St. Peter School won the special prize for their rare performance in Bengali dance.

In the second phase of cultural competition which belonged to the Professional Institutes of dance, first prize in Solo Dance category was bagged by Mrinalini Gupta of Unique Dancing Institute for Dogri dance, second prize went to Heena Gupta and third was bagged by Miss Shivani Ranjan for their individual performance.

In group dance category the first prize was bagged by Dogri dance "Chudha Kun Kadhya"which was presented by unique Dancing Institute, the second prize was bagged by Pooja and Group and the third prize went to the participants of both Hardeep Group and V A V Group.

The New Choice Dancing Institute bagged a special prize for their best performance and the consolation prize went to Back Street Boys Group.

Mr Rajinder Singh, junior Sales Executive Officer of Amul was honoured by Minister of Agriculture, Mr Nisar Ahmed Khan who also released the Dogri play script , "Ikk Tukda Zameen Di Tapaash".

Tearful homage paid to Mirpur martyrs

JAMMU, Nov 26: Tearful homage was paid to martyrs of Mirpur who sacrificed their lives during the fall of Mirpur on November 25 in 1947.

As per a release, a Bhog Shri Akhand Path was organised in their memory.

Those who paid tributes include Dr Kulwant Singh, (retd) Director Animal Husbandry, S Hardev Singh, H S Bahri, retd District and Session Judge, Messrs C P Gupta, Balraj Puri, Dr Gurmeet Singh and other distinguished personalities from all walks of life.

The Guru Ka Langar was served at the end of the function. Later a public meeting was held where the leaders of all the communities from Mirpur recollected the holocaust of 1947 where thousands of Sikhs and Hindus including women and children were killed by Pakistani raiders.

One more held for girl’s rape near Roop Nagar

JAMMU, Nov 26: The police arrested one more Gujjar youth for the alleged rape of a girl near Roop Nagar.

SP City North, Mr Jhony William said that one more accused namely—Mohammed Yaqoob alias Soni, son of Mushtafa of Ploura was arrested by a Janipur police party led by SHO, Kuldip Khajuria today. He said of the three rapists, one was arrested yesterday while the third was still absconding.

The rape victim, Ms Neema hailing from village Tali in tehsil Hiranagar of district Kathua, was handed over to her parents after medical examination last evening. The parents told police that girl had left for Jhiri fair from home with her cousin on Nov 24. The police is also suspecting into the tale narrated by girl’s cousin and has called him for questioning. It said while Jhiri falls on different route, how they reached at Roop Nagar is not yet established.The investigation into the case was in progress.

Dissolve District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee: SAD

JAMMU, Nov 26: Taking serious note of the alleged harassment to the management committees of some independent Gurdwaras by some members of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu, the State Akali Dal chief (J&K), Mr Jagdev Singh has demanded that the existing Committee be dissolved immediately.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Singh said that the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president and general secretary have involved several committees of various independent Gurdwaras into litigation, thus wasting the public offerings made for the religious cause. For their motives they are even trying to interfere into the functioning of other Sikh religious places.

Not only this, the secretary of the District Committee on Gurpurab day misled the Sikh devotees by giving a wrong twist to the visit of Giani Kewel Singh, Jathedar Dam Dama Sahib to Jammu recently. The Akali chief said that a criminal case is pending against Giani Kewel Singh in Punjab and Harayana High Court. After this, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kour had advised Mr Kewel Singh to tender his resignation from the seat of Jathedar to keep the highest tradition of Sikh religion but instead of this all, he is trying to exert political pressure to regain his seat. Mr Singh said that Mr Kewel Singh should resign for the interest of the community.

The Akali leader also demanded that salary of the Granthis and the Raghis should be increased and the basic facilities be provided to them.

He made an appeal to Mr Sudershan Singh Wazir, president J&K State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board to dissolve the district body Jammu and appoint an Administrator of high caliber by exercising his powers for the larger interest of the community.

He also demanded that All India Gurdwara Act should be framed and the compensation be paid to the widow of SI Sandeep Paul Singh as per the direction of the court.

Vaid calls on CNM, discusses border migrants woes

JAMMU, Nov. 26: Vaid Vaishno Datt, Member Parliament and senior BJP leader called on the Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and brought into his notice the problems being faced by the border migrants. Dr Farooq Abdullah stated that the matter regarding notification of areas falling with in five Km of LoC will be decided by the army authorities and the matter has been refered to them.

Vaid Vishno Datt also brought to his notice the problem of youth of border migrants for which he was assured by the chief minister that government has decided to waive off interest on loan which was granted to them.

With regard to the demand of BJP leader that adequate crop compensation be given to the farmers of the area, Dr Farooq Abdullah stated that the Government has decided to give relief to the farmers whose 50 percent of crop was destroyed. It was further decided in the meeting that the Government will allot a total of 2200 tents to the border migrants. Among others who accompanied the MP include BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria, MLA Ch Piara Singh, Ram Nath Manhas, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Pt Chajju Ram and Amarnath.

Earlier Vaid Vaishno Datt had an extensive tour of the Bakor, Manour and Jourian areas. He was given warm reception by the residents of the area and reposed their full faith in the leadership of Vaid Vaishno Datt. The BJP leader stated that he will take every possible step for the development of the area and added that Central Government is liberal enough to grant adequate funds for mitigating the sufferings of the peoples of this state. He flayed the state Government for not taking adequate steps in mitigating the sufferings of the people.

Kashmiri Hindu Forum holds meeting

UDHAMPUR, Nov 26: A meeting of the Udhampur unit of the All India Kashmiri Hindu Forum was held under the presidentship of Mr M L Pandita.

According to a press release, meeting discussed various problems being faced by the migrants. Meeting demanded release of the cash assistance, release of CCA/DA in favour of migrant Government employees, solution of the long pending demands of displaced traders and rent for the migrants residing in rented houses.

Mr Rakesh Kumar Tikko, Vinod, P N Saproo, Mohan Krishan Pandit and Inder Nattal addressed the meeting.
