Strengthen Sikh Panth

Sir,

Apropos of verticle division of Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee, I am sure the eminent so-called Sikh leaders have neither studied the Sikh 'Leher' nor Gurbani nor history. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was pleased to bestow all his powers to Khalsa Panth and not to any Jathedar. Khalsa during the past three centuries adhered to noble character and discipline of the highest order as has been commended by foreigners including Mughal historians. Sikhs exhibited highest morals in National and Gurdwara movements, all emanating from Akal Takht.

One fails to understand asto why those Sikhs who feel concerned and worried over the present sorry State of affairs sit silent and not probe when and where we went wrong. Sikhs number above two crores in the world but Akal Takht, the highest seat of Khalsa Panth has been denigrated before our eyes from within now, knowing well that it is not only a building nor a person (Jathedar) but is a sacred institutions which deserves regards from all humans. At one time, a thought was floated to form a "Sikh Think Tank" but unluckily shelved.

Our State produced eminent Sikhs like Akali Kaur Singh, Mahatma Budh Singh who had been serving the people at large without any remuneration what-so-ever. Now is the time for State Sikhs (as SGPC and DGMC have limited jurisdiction of Punjab and Delhi to manage Gurudwaras only) to come into fore, get together, rise above party lines or personal prejudices to discuss the horrible situation of Khalsa Panth. After proper consideration and arriving at consesus a bigger conference involving a few good practising Sikhs from other provinces and from abroad should be held.

Khalsa Panth is celebrating Tricentenary with great pomp and show which, I am afraid, does not carry the sanction of Gurbani. Instead Panth must apply mind about uniting numerous sects of Sikhs, arrange proper liaison individually. Sections and dissensions have no place in Sikh 'Leher' this is creation of rulers in the past and sustained after 1947 by vested interests including Sikh leaders.

Charge reasonable fee

Sir,

"Child is the father of the nation" is a well known proverb. Because it is the child who after passing through the various phases of education achieves a position from where he can serve the country as well as humanity. But it seems that this opportunity of attaining such a position is not available to all candidates. This is because in the modern educational set up it is very difficult for poor parents to provide education to their children. Any how, if the education has been provided then another problem that arises is that of employment. As it is evident that present era is the period of competition and only those candidates can get employment who are deserving. But it seems that many students who are having the potential of attaining some position are being deprived of their rights. And the reason for their misery is the fee which is required for appearing in the competitive examinations. How can an unemployed person manage such large amount? More over the students have to come a long way for appearing in the exams which again increases their expenses. So what is required is that the fee fixed should be reasonable so that the desires of the poor parents from their worthy children may get fulfilled.

I on behalf of all the student community request the concerned authorities to pay a due attention in this matter.

Medicines in metric measure

Sir,

Now-a-days, name of medicines on strips of tablets/capsules are printed only once for complete strip. Name of medicine is not available when tablet/capsule under printed name is consumed. It leads either to waste rest of medicine-strip, or may lead to consuming wrong medicines. It becomes difficult to identify the medicine when medicine-shop gives such a cut-portion of the strip which does not contain name of the medicine. Rule should be to print name of the medicine on strip-sides individually for each tablet/capsule. Even medicine-name may be embossed/printed on every tablet/capsule. Name of the medicine may be compulsorily printed to Hindi also on medicine-packs.

Packing of medicines should be in true metric spirit in packs like 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 gms. or mltrs., then in 1, 2, 5, or multiples of 5 kgs. or ltrs. only. Likewise, medicines to be packed numberwise may be in units of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and multiples of 1000 only. This will avoid cheating of consumers by packs like 8 lozenses per strip instead of normal 10 even in cases of generally advertised medicines. However, exemption may be given to medicines to be administered dosewise in units other than suggested metric units. Glass-containers of medicines must be replaced by containers made of unbreakable material to avoid loss of medicine by breaking of containers. At least essential commodities like medicines should have uniform local taxes so that only net payable price may be printed on items like medicines.

Sufficient time has lapsed in printing dual units of Centigrade and Farenhide on clinical thermometers. Now only metric unit of Centigrade may be printed on thermometers. However, paper conversion-tables from Centigrade-Farenhide and vice-versa may be packed with thermometers for some more time.

"Incompetent" Authority

Sir,

The Competent Authority (C.A.) was established with Sole aim of ensuring fair selection for all the professional Colleges in the State and in the minimum possible time, such a selection committee is supposed to be very efficient, neutral and free from any political pressure. But in our State the condition of this selection committee is very sorrow.

Every where else in India the selection committee follow a certain well defined pattern which they strictly adhere to viz only one notification is issued i.e. for sale of application forms cum, information brochures and date of exams. The date of examination date of result, starts of session of fee etc. is explietly given in the information brochure. The selection procedure is completed within a month but in case of CAEE the selection procedure is completed in 5 steps spread over 6 months minimum.

1. Notification for sale of forms.

2. Notification for date of examination.

3. Declaration of Results.

4. Allotment of courses/Branches/Regd.

5. Beginning of session.

The session starts in August every where else in India but in our State due to callous and indifferent attitude of the CA it is delayed by months together. The type of questions in the C.A.E.E. are (Multiple choice questions) and the answer sheets are evaluated by Computer. Therefore, 20 days time for declaration of result is more sufficient but the C.A. E.E. takes months for declaring the results. This clearly indicates how efficient the Competent Authority is?

Looking at the functioning of the Competent Authority it must be renamed as the Incompetent Authority then atleast no one will question its efficiency, functioning and authenticity.
