Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Mr Harsh Dev Singh, Panthers Party MLA from Ramnagar held a tour of Majalta block and addressed a massive public rally at village Nakki which was attended by about 2000 people from various villages of the block. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Harsh Dev Singh assailed the successive Central Government as well as the State Government for the prevailing financial crunch in the State. He regretted that the developmental initiative had been adversely affected as a result of the present cash crisis and the wages, salaries and arrears of the Government employees had remained unpaid despite repeated commitments of the Government. Expressing concern over the on-going employees agitation which had completely paralysed all activity, Mr Singh called upon the Government to take immediate steps for redressal of the grievances of the employees so that the stalemate could be end. Highlighting the various demands of the Majalta Block, Mr Singh urged the concerned departments to ensure the immediate construction of Balpur-Sudhla-Babey Road, Marta-Dheeran-Chountra Mata-Thial road, up-gradation of Thial Link Road, Barigarh-Sail Kori, Bair Road, Thalora-Tajur Road, Bharmara-Dhamma Road. Mr Singh further released Rs 0.75 lakhs for the onward construction of Tajur Road, 0.50 Lakhs for Tanani-Kandi Road, Rs 0.20 lakhs for Sultan Road and Rs 0.70 lakhs for construction of play ground for Middle School Gorh Samnabhanj. Mr Harsh Dev Singh also urged upon the Electric Department to ensure the repairs of all damaged transformers in the block at the earliest and up-grade the existing 100 KV Transformer at Nakki to 200 KV capacity. He further announced the provision of 6th class in Primary School Nakki from the next academic year. He strongly flayed the mechanical division of PHE for its negligence in maintenance of pumping station at Khoon and Sail-Kori-Bair. He regretted that the said pumping stations were non-functional for the last several months to the great inconvenience of general public and demanded action against the erring officials. Mr Singh further expressed grave concern over the shortage of teaching staff in the various schools of the block as a result of which the academic activity had been greatly affected. |

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: President of National Mazdoor Conference Mr Subash Shastri has urged the Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah to take immediate measures to sort out demands of the State Government employees. While addressing the NMC workers, Mr Shastri justified demands of the State Government employees which include, release of instalments of DA alongwith second instalment of 5th Pay Commission arrears, regularisation of daily wagers and enhancement of wages of daily wagers. He said that when the Central Government in principal has agreed to grant special financial assistance to State then there is no justification of withholding these incentives in favour of its employees. He urged Dr Farooq Abdullah to personally intervene in to the matter and concede long pending genuine demands of the employees. Prominent among others who addressed the gathering include, Harbans Lal, Thoru ram, Ram Chand, Janak Raj and Yash Paul, said release issued here today. |
Army organises free medical camp Excelsior Correspondent POONCH, Dec 26: A medical camp was organised by 5/4 Gorkha Rifles with the cooperation of Sub District Hospital, Mendhar for the benefit of local population at village Chhatral. As per a release the camp provide all the specialities in the OPD launched by it alongwith laboratory facilities and polio immunization cell. Medicines worth Rs 15,000 were provided free of cost to patients in the camp which was inaugurated by Col S K Patyal, Commanding Officer 5/4 Gorkha Rifles. The battalion also undertook to bear the expenses of six cataract operations to be performed on poorest and needy elders. A Civil-Military liaison meeting was also held which was attended by SDM Mendhar, SDPO, Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildars of Mendhar and Harni. Officials of other departments also attended. The villagers highlighted their problems and were assured prompt action. |
Ladakhi students celebrates Losar Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: All Ladakhi Students Union, Jammu celebrated Losar which marked with traditional Ladakhi folk dances and modern Ladakhi songs. The function was held tonight at Chandrabagha Hall, near Bhagwati Nagar. Beside highlighting problems being faced by the Ladakhi students, young Ladakhi students studying in Jammu made was an excellent attempt to highlight their rich culture. Thali dance, Jabro, Tsings Lhu and other traditional items were presented in the cultural extravaganza which were followed by modern songs. Mr Rancho Angdo mesmerized the audience by his gazal Hoosh Walon Ko Khabar Kaya Bekhudi Kaya Cheeze Hai, Ishaq Kejiye Phir Samajeeya Jindgi Kaya Cheeze Hai". Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr Stanzin Losal, president of the All Ladakhi Students Union, Jammu, served a memorandum to Mr Mohammed Shafi, Minister for Education. ALSUJ demanded relaxation for Ladakhi students in college admissions and increase of the quota of the Ladakhi students in the hostels of different colleges and also in the University of Jammu. Ladakhi students also expressed concern that this year the Ladakhi students were not given due representation for Master degree programme in University of Jammu. They asked the Education Minister to rectify the admission procedure and take preliminary steps on this regard. They also demanded opening of a higher secondary school in Zanskar. Demanding affiliation of the Degree College, Leh with the University of Jammu, Ladakhi students regretted that irregular classes and untimely holding of examination for reasons like disturbed situation in Kashmir have affecting study of the Ladakhi students. They were of the view that irregular classroom studies and examinations were going to be affected as long as unsuitability and turmoil continues in the Valley, there by, making the opening of College futile. They demanded that only solution to this serious problem is to affiliate Leh College with Jammu University. While addressing the students, Education Minister, Mr Mohammed Shafi, who was chief guest in the function, assured that Ladakhi students that their problems would be redressed. He disclosed that he will convened a meeting of Vice-Chancellor, officers of Education Department and Board of School Education to discuss the problems. He said that National Conference was committed for the equitable development of all the three regions of the State. Education Minister asserted that National Conference Government under the leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullah would never allow discrimination with any part of the State. Mr Shafi also announced a sum of Rs 5,000 for the All Ladakhi Students Union, Jammu. All Ministers, political leaders and bureaucrats hailing from Ladakh attended the impressive function. |

As per release Dr Som Dutt Magotra was elected as new President of the All J&K Ayurvedic Congress. He secured 50 votes out of the total 55 polled votes. Dr (Mrs.) Sreshta Gupta and Dr Swarjya Singh were uanimously elected as senior Vice President and General Secretary respectively. House further authorised the President to nominate the rest of the office bearers and members of the Executive Committee after obtaining the consent of the members thus nominated. |
AIKHF asks KP leaders to come on single platform Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: The All India Kashmiri Hindu Forum (AIKHF) has given a clarion call to all the Kashmiri Pandit leaders to come on a single platform by sinking all their differences and launch a joint struggle for the cause of the exiled community. The appeal was made by Forum chairman, Mr R L Bhan and Ramesh Koul while talking to media persons after laying the foundation stone of (AIKHF) office at Durga Nagar, Sector Two near here today. Mr Bhan, said if the community leadership still fails to learn any lesson from the agony and plight of the displaced community and fail to come on a single platform to launch a unified action the history will never forget us. He said the growing Pan Islamic forces is a great threat to the community and the leadership should not think in isolated terms on the problems confronting the community. He blamed the Government for its total failure in protecting the minorities in Kashmir Valley whose existence has been threatened by the Pan Islamic forces. He said the community was not only forced to leave the Valley on gun point by the terrorists but the properties of the community were usurped and the houses were raised to ground. Mr Bhan demanded that the Kashmiri Hindus be given the minority status and their constitutional rights be safeguarded fully. He said an impression has been generated in the community that Kashmiri Hindus have to live at the mercy of majority community in the Valley with little claim to their rights and property as the original inhabitants of the state and inhabitants of the country. Strongly advocating the demand for a representation to the Kashmiri minorities in legislature foras, he said the community though in minority remains unrepresented in the Assembly. He said as per the report submitted by the State Government to the National Human Rights Commission last year out of 16,979 houses possessed by the community in the Valley, 5608 have been subverted, 2876 damaged and 8499 were standing but later no such lists were released by the Government. He demanded that the lists of the property be framed as per the claims submitted in 1992 and the community should be provided all the facilities they are entitled to as internally displaced people. Mr Bhan took the Government to task for what he alleged its discriminatory attitude towards the community while making admissions in professional institutions or Government services. He warned those persons who are misleading the community members and spreading canards about the return move. He urged the Government of India to take drastic steps for the rehabilitation of the community. Later the foundation stone of the AIKHF Office was laid by Dr Razma Malhotra, president AIKHF, USA. Speaking on the occasion she assured all help and cooperation on behalf of USA branch of AIKHF to the displaced Kashmiri Hindus in highlighting their problems. She also urged the community to come on a single platform and initiate the self help projects for the displaced people. Others who spoke on the occasion, include Messrs Mohan Lal Ash, Chaman Lal Sahib, B N Hali, Mrs Raj Kumari Razdan, Rattan Kumar Tickoo and Mrs Shama Ji a social worker. |
USTF constitutes Udhampur unit Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Dec 26: Mr Shankar Dass teacher Adult Education was elected president United School Teachers Federation, (USTF) Unit Udhampur, the elections of which were held here today. As per a release, he defeated his nearest rival Mr Suman Kapoor, Master Government Middle School Panchari by a margin of 140 votes. Mr Ram Parshad, teacher City High School Udhampur was elected senior vice president after defeating Mr Rajeshwar Sharma by a margin of 132 votes. Mr Upkar Singh, Master was elected district secretary after defeating his nearest rival Mr Kamal Sharma by a margin of 139 votes while Sajay Sharma was elected organisor. He defeated his nearest rival Mr Surinder Kumar by a margin of 135 votes. The elections were held in the presence of Messrs Ved Prakash, provincial president and Bashir Hussain chief organisor of the Federation. |
Rather calls upon youth to avail benefits from self-employment schemes Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: The Finance Minister, Mr Abdul Rahim Rather, has called upon the educated unemployed youth of the state to come forward in large numbers and benefit themselves from self-employment programme launched in the State by the Government. Speaking at a function organised in connection with the launching of Cyber Cafe, first of its kind in Jammu today, Mr Rather said a number of schemes and incentives are available under the self employment programme and educated youth should benefit themselves from these schemes. He said in view of the limited scope in the Government jobs the real answer to unemployment problem in generation of maximum employment opportunities under the self employment programme. The Government, he said has therefore attached greater importance to the programme. The entrepreneurs by establishing the units under the scheme will not only create employment opportunities for themselves but for a very large number of skilled and unskilled workers who are employed in these units. Mr Rather stressed upon the financial and other institutions connected with the implementation of these schemes to have more helpful and broader approach. Every effort and care should be taken that maximum help is extended to the unemployed youth who want to benefit from these schemes. The Managing Director, Jammu and Kashmir State financial Corporation, Mr Vinod Gupta, who spoke on the occasion, said that this is the first unit of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir which has been assisted by the Corporation under National Equity Fund Scheme - NEF. He said Corporation has been poineer in the field of advancing loans under NEF and has sanctioned Rs 135.16 lacs under the scheme during the current year in favour of 31 Small Scale Industrial Units. He highlighted the benefits and the incentives available under the scheme and expressed the hope that more number of youth will benefit themselves. He said during the first 8 months of the current year the Corporation has sanctioned total loans of Rs 16.00 crores in favour of 346 units and disbursed over rupees ten crores so far. The concept of Cyber Cafes, it may be added here though new in Jammu, has been tried successfully not only in Metropolitan cities like Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Chenai and Banglore etc but also in many other cities where internet facilities are available. Establishment of such cafes enables access to the internet/e-mail facilities to all those who cannot afford to have their own personal computers with internet facility. The student community is particularly benefited from the services offered by such like units as they can avail the internet facility for going through hundred of sites containing vast data usable for various purposes including research which otherwise is out of their reach. The Trikuta Cyber Cafe inaugurated today besides having the facility of Internet, E-Mailing, Scanning, will have also many other facilities for the benefit of children and students. |

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Jammu and Kashmir Vikas Party today launched free ambulance services for poor and needy patients. The ambulance will be available at Gandhi Nagar Hospital. Col (Retd) Khajoor Singh Jasrotia, grand father of Kargil martyr late Major Ajay Jasrotia inaugurated the service at Gandhi Nagar Hospital. Addressing the gathering, Mr Som Nath Dabgotra, founder president of the Jammu and Kashmir Vikas Party, said that decision to provide free ambulance services to the poor and needy patients was taken to help the people. He regretted that huge amounts have been spent on medical services but still majority of the people deprived of these essential services. He said that Vikas Party has also decided to start ambulance services in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir to help the ailing ones. Mr Dabgotra appealed to the general public to inform the needy and poor people about this facility so that they can avail free ambulance service at the time of need. The inaugural function started with Vikas Party workers shouted patriotic slogans and recalled supreme sacrifices of Maj Ajay Jasrotia, who laid down his life while protecting honour and dignity of the Mother Land. Mr Dabgotra described this ambulance service a new millennium gift for poor and weaker section of the society. In his address, Col Jasrotia appreciated the efforts of Vikas Party to provide free ambulance services to the poor people. He asked the youth to start self-services for the neglected and marginalised lot of the society. Later, activists of the Jammu and Kashmir Vikas Party burnt effigy of worlds Most-Wanted Islamic terrorist Osama Bin Laden for his involvement in the terrorists activities in India and other party of the world. Vikas Party chief while torching effigy of Laden said that time has ripe to teach a be-fitting lesson to Pakistan for its repeated stupid mis-adventures. Doctors should serve in remote,rural areas: Altaf Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mian Altaf has asked the doctors to serve in rural and remote areas of the state as their services are much needed by the rural masses. Addressing the fifth Annual Dental Conference here today, he said majority of the doctors prefer their postings in Jammu or other urban areas but they avoid to go to periphery hospitals or other health centres in remote areas. He said that strict action would be taken against those not reporting to their places of postings. He said justice would be done with the dental surgeons in terms of promotions besides creation of more posts for them. The minister said that as per the available resources, the efforts would be utilised to set up better dental units at district hospitals. Mr Altaf said that Chief Minister, who himself is associated with the same profession, is very serious about the Health department and takes much pain in resolving the issues related to the wing. The dental health is the most vital because we realise the importance of a dental surgeon during severe toothache. Earlier, the minister declared opened the conference by lighting traditional lamp. Principal secretary, Health and Medical Education, Mr S S Blowria, Director Health Jammu Dr R K Goel, Principal Medical College Jammu, Dr H L Goswami and other members of the Indian Dental Association were also present on the occasion. About 150 delegates participated in the programme. Mr Blowria, Dr Goel and Dr Goswami also spoke on the occasion. Dr Goswami stressed the need for a Dental College in the region and awareness among the people about the care of their teeth. He said that prevention is the most cheaper treatment rather than the costly operations or treatment of this field. The material cost is very expensive and in most of the hospitals in districts and blocks, the infrastructure is not sufficient, they observed. President of the Association in his welcome address highlighted the problems of the dental surgeons and alleged that they are discriminated by the government in terms promotional avenues. He said that a separate Dental College be set up in Jammu and there is the need to separate this wing. He stressed the need for oral health policy and said that state government has yet to decide about it. The Dental surgeons is a frustrated lot due to no administrative promotional avenues. He maintained that a frustrated doctor will not deliver the goods. The ideal dentist population is one dentist to every 1000 people but in J&K it is 1:50,000. The government should also expedite the process of setting up state dental council, he added. At the concluding of the first session of the conference the minister distributed certificates of appreciation among some doctors besides releasing a book written on dental care by Dr G. Mengi. |
