KP bodies term Handoo’s statement unfortunate

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 25: There has been mixed reaction over the statement of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr P L Handoo regarding the return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley from various KP bodies.

All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) while expressing its surprise and concern over the statement of Mr Handoo said the Minister has perhaps forgotten that it was he who initiated the migration alongwith his family while majority of KPs were still in the Valley facing the killings.

Commenting on the statement of Mr Handoo it said the threatening posters, derogatory slogans and brutal killings and total failure of the administration compelled the community to migrate.

The statement further said that Mr Handoo might be knowing fully that he could not even dare to attend the 10 th Day Kriya of late Pt. Prem Nath Bhat or condemn his killing by subversives.

It said Mr Handoo must have also forgotten that it was the Operation To-Pac of Gen. Zia-ul-Haq and the threatening letters and death warrants pasted on the walls and gates of every house asking the community to quit or face the consequences.

Terming the Minister’s claim regarding the return of normalcy in Kashmir Valley as totally hollow it said that the militants have entered the high security zones recently and attacked the army and security forces which indicates that the situation is worst than 1989-90.

The All Kashmiri Pandit Solidarity Conference (AKPSC) while reacting to Mr Handoo’s statement strongly criticised it and termed it totally misleading.

As per a AKPSC handout issued here today, a meeting of the organisation was held here today under the presidentship of Mr O N Trisal. The meeting said Mr Handoo was hoodwinking the community and his statement attributed to community does not carry any weight or substance.

It said Mr Handoo’s statement that the situation has become conducive can be judged from the recent organised attacks on the security camps not only in Kupwara, Baramulla, Civil Secretariat but also at biggest security headquarters at Badami Bagh in Srinagar district.

Reacting to the statement Mr P N Tengloo described it most outrageous and ridiculous while Mr H L Bindroo termed it totally unfortunate.

However, the Kul Hind Nove Soan Kashmir Front has said that it fully favours the return of the migrants to Kashmir Valley and expressed its willingness to extended its all support in this regard.

However, it alleged that Kashmiri Pandit community has suffered an immense loss during the NC rule in 1947, 1980 and 1986.

All Displaced Kashmiri Employees Forum (ADKEF) has also criticised the statement of Mr Handoo. The Forum in a meeting here today held under the chairmanship of Mr M K Tickoo its president asked the employees to be ready for a decisive struggle against any forced return move.

The meeting said the situation in Kashmir Valley is far from normal and the statement given by the Minister is totally misleading and confusing.

PK takes serious note of Kashmir Samiti’s move

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 25: Panun Kashmir a frontal organisation of over three lakh displaced Kashmiris has taken serious note of the statement issued by Mr C L Gadoo, president Kashmir Samiti about his proposed move to hold dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference leaders regarding the future of exiled community.

As per a release, the PK during the opening day of its two day Working Council meeting today strongly condemned the move of the Samiti which it said is a Delhi based social cultural organisation.

The PK further decried the attempt of the Samiti to rope in the name of Panun Kashmir in order to give the credibility to the move.

It said the Panun Kashmir has nothing to do with these parleys and it has never participated nor intends to participate in any deliberations of this nature.

The PK leaders while cautioning the Kashmiri Pandit community against the hob nobbing by these self styled leaders asked the community to remain vigilant against the irrelevant, premature and ill conceived parleys.

The handout however, said that PK does not shy away from having a dialogue with the genuine representatives of different communities but time and circumstances are not ripe in view of the serious turn that militancy has taken in the J&K State in the post Kargil scenario.

Moreover, the statement said Hurriyat leaders have not so far shown any indication or any let up in their rigid stand and ideology nor have they shown any regard or remorse for their role in inflicting the genocidal conditions of Kashmiri Pandits and forcing them into exile.

It said the Panun Kashmir is seriously deliberating on the future strategies and the course of action to be adopted by the community now living in the 10th year of exile and denied the basic human rights.

Those who participated in the deliberations include Dr Agnishekhar, convener, Dr K L Chowdhary, Chairman Political Affairs Committee, Pt. Moti Lal Koul, vice president, Prof Neerja Tickoo, Mr Kamal Hak, Pt. D K Koul and Mr Romesh Manavati.
