New products introduced
Camlin holds customers workshop

JAMMU, Dec 20: Camlin Ltd India’s leading art material and stationary materials introduced its newly manufactured products here today. These products were introduced at a get-together cum workshop of Principals and art teachers of leading local schools held in the Conference Hall of Hotel Asia.

Besides some leading businessmen over 100 principals and art teachers participated in the workshop.

The newly introduced products include Ultra bright Sketch Pen Ink, Synthetic Hair Brushes, Artica Water Mixable Oil Colour and Camlin Glass colours.

While Mr Malhotra of Malhotra Trading Company, the distributor of Camlin products in Jammu introduced the sketch pen, Mr Rakesh another distributor for the Company introduced the synthetic brushes.

Mr Jaipal a drawing teacher opened the water mixable Oil colour and a sister from local Christian Missionary introduced the Camlin Glass colours.

Giving details of these products, Mr C S Ahuja, Sales Promotion Manager Camlin Ltd said synthetic hair brushes are very economical. He said in water mixable oil colour there is no need of mixing K -Oil and Turpentine for washing a brush now. This Oil colour has been introduced only with the motive to avoid harm to painting and person.

Regarding the Camlin Glass colours he said these are India’s first water based colours. However, the product will be available in Jammu upto February.

Giving further details, he said, Camlin is the only company providing all the requirements of the school under one roof. He said Camlin which was established in 1931 by late Mr D P Dandekar a Chemistry Graduate with only ink bottles is today engaged in manufacturing of over 5000 products spread into stationary, art material, pharmaceutical and fine chemicals.

He said being a ‘Swedish’ Company it has also shown its pragmatism by introducing high quality products in collaboration with Global giants like Pilot Ben Crop. of Japan, Newsor and Newton of England and Canson of France.

He said besides the Camlin is also the world’s second largest manufacturer of food grade, anti oxidants which is an essential ingredient of all food products.

He said the products manufactured by Camlin are not health hazards and for the modern Indian artist the Camlin is the best. The sale turnover of the company is Rs 125 crore.

He said the company exports its material to Middle East, Asia and Africa. Besides the art material is being sent to America also.

Giving further details he said the Camlin is also introducing different competitions from time to time for the promotion of talent among the children.

He said the Company has created a world record by enrolling 30 lakh entries for the All India Camel Colour Contest. Besides this the company has organised Sparkle Greeting card contest, hobby and craft contest, neat and clean hand writing contest and hobby colours, video demonstrations and workshops.

Messrs Rajiv Passi and S K Zutshi both area managers also detailed the audience about the various products being manufactured by the Company.

The get-together was organised to brief the principals and art teachers of the city schools about the latest introduction and advancements achieved by the company as well as their impact on the school and students.

Through an audio, video presentation the participants were taken through the history of the company as well as the various achievements.

The demonstration for the use of various colours was also presented by Mr Jaswal. The RSM of the Company Mr Mr A Kapoor, informed the audience about the other activities being conducted for the school.

Kashmiri fire sufferers oppose rehabilitation move

JAMMU, Dec 20: Kashmiri Hindu Fire Sufferers Forum Camp Jammu has strongly opposed the state government’s move for the rehabilitation of members of the displaced community.

According to a release, the members of the Forum in meeting unanimously decided to ‘fight to finish’ if the State or the Central government embark any plan forcing displaced community to return to militancy infested Valley.

Mr L N Bhat, a senior member of the Forum criticised some leaders who gave recent statements regarding improvement in situation in Kashmir valley. He alleged that they infact have no idea about the situation the militants are still ruling the roost and are indulging in even daring incidents of attacks on the security forces.

He said the migrants are yearning to return to their homes provided congenial atmosphere is created and the members of the minority community are convinced that their life, honour and property is safe. Besides, comprehensive economic package, government should come out with a constitutional guarantee about the rights of these people.

The members demanded that government should earnestly safeguard the left over properties of the minorities in the Valley besides releasing long pending ex-gratia relief of the gutted properties.

PCC delegation meets CM

JAMMU, Dec 20: A high level delegation of Pradesh Congress Committee led by Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma, PCC vice president called on the Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and submitted a charter of demands of inhabitants of R S Pura who are residing to the close proximity of International Border.

As per a release the problems mainly pertained to non-availability of relief in cash and kind to the people who could not cultivate their lands due to continued shelling from across the Border.

The Chief Minister gave them a patient hearing and promised to have the issue examined fully for taking realistic steps. The deputationist brought to the notice of the CM the issue of selling out of their paddy at throw away price in view of substantial import of Basmati rice from Punjab state. The deputationist demanded lifting of ban of export of Basmati rice so that the farmers could get suitable price for their crop.. The Chief Minister assured that Government will issue the order shortly.

The deputationist also apprised the Chief Minister of the delay being caused in issuance of orders of re-instatement of Chowdhary Bachan Lal, Erstwhile SP Kot Bhalwal Jail, because he has been exhonerated by the inquiry officer as nothing was proved against him. The deputationist stressed that any delay in the reinstatement of Mr Chowdhary would amount to his victimization for no fault of him.

The Chief Minister assured the deputation that Chowdhary Bachan Singh would be re-instated only if he was found innocent in the whole episode.

Others in the deputation included Messrs Choudhary Garu Ram, Ramesh Lal Mottan, Sarwan Kumar Choudhary, Sardar Sobha Singh and Ch Munshi Ram.

ASKPC warns Government

JAMMU, Dec 20: All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) in a meeting here today has demanded economic rehabilitation of the displaced Hindus form Kashmir Valley.

Addressing the meeting vice president of the ASKPC, Mr H L Chata also demanded two room sets for those migrants who are putting up out side the camps.

The meeting was chaired by the chief of the organisation Mr A N Vaishnavi. Highlighting the other demands of the displaced employees, Mr Basant Kumar demanded immediate release of HRA, CCA and jobs for the displaced youth.

Mr R K Raina demanded that community leadership should be taken into confidence while taking any decision on its return. He warned the agents of Government for spreading canards among the community on return.

Mr B L Dhar demanded construction of wells and repairs of road at Mishriwala while Mrs Mohni and Mr Girdari Lal demanded water supply, ration depot and K Oil Depot at Purkhoo Camp.

In his address, Mr A N Vaishnavi said that mass awareness campaign will be launched in Jammu for which a programme Committee will be set up under the chairmanship of Mr H L Chatta.

Its members will include Messrs M L Raina, Mohan Lal, Ram Krishan, Girdhari Lal, Ram Krishan Wangoo, Basant Ji and B L Dhar.

Mr M L Raina of Purkhoo warned the State Government against any move on migrants return without taking the community leadership into confidence. He said the unilateral decisions will not be acceptable to community.

The meeting paid rich tributes to former MP and senior BJP leader Mr Krishan Lal Sharma and described him a Karamyogi. It also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to departed leader.

Youth have to play a role in nation building: Saxena

JAMMU, Dec 19: The Dogra College of Education, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, Jammu observed its foundation day in the premises of college yesterday. Governor Mr Girish Chandra Saxena was the chief guest on the occasion.

Others present on the occasion were Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof R R Sharma, former Vice Chancellor, Mr M R Puri and Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, MLC.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor stressed upon the youth to prepare themselves to play a big role for nation building. He said for this task, the student should make themselves physically and mental strong besides developing in them the qualities of character, discipline and leadership.

The Governor said that the responsibility of carrying the country forward rests largely on young students who are nation's most valued assets and richest human resources.

Mr Saxena said that on account of rapid advances in the field of science and technology, our education system should be formulated such a way that the student community could face the challenges of these technologies. He said that Education Planner and Institutions must take note of the new forces unleashed by the modernisation, globalisation and liberalisation.

The Governor said that the State Government is doing a lot to improve the educational standard in the State. He urged upon private sectors to come forward to dove-tail the Government policies for a qualitative education.

Expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the Dogra College in their annual examination as put forth by the Principal, Prof Nihal Singh, the Governor said that the good teachers and good principals are the key factors which set things right. He impressed upon teachers to dedicate their utmost spirit to educate the students in real sense.

The Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof R R Sharma, who presided over the function, said on the occasion that Dogra College of Education has done a good job in opening it outside the city.

Th Gulchain Singh Charak who is the Chairman of the College Management Committee threw light about the college which was instituted in memory of the valiant Dogra rulers and soldiers who made supreme sacrifice for laying the foundation of a vast Duggar land with distinct culture and tradition.

The Governor on the occasion also released the College Magazine.

Earlier, the student presented a colourful cultural programme by receiving applause from the audiences.

Strike affects working in Government offices

RAJOURI, Dec 20: On the first day of the second phase of their on-going agitation, Government employees of the district observed strike on the call of the four days Kaam Chhor Hartal of the Employees Joint Action Committee.

According to a press release, working in the various Government offices included Tehsil offices Nowshera, Kalakote, Sunderbani and Thanamandi remained paralysed in protest against the non-implementation of agreement reached between the employees and Jammu and Kashmir Government which included the 10 percent and 5 percent DA installment, second installment of 5th Pay Commission arrears, regularisation of daily wagers and motivators and restoration of SRO-43.

The Campaigning Committee comprising of Mr Karmat Malik, Sadiq Chib, Mazbool Hussain Shah, Mohammed Bashir Mirza, Mohammed Rafiq, Vijay Kumar, Abdul Hamid, Suresh Chander, Ghulam Nabi, Iftikar Lone, Mohammed Mushtaq, Parveeen Kumar and Rakesh Datta, appealed employees to observe the strike from 20th to 23rd December to force the Government to accept their genuine and just demands.

The employees have also decided to hold one day protest rally in Town Hall, Rajouri on December 23.

Concern over delay in list

DODA, Dec 20: Veterinary Association has expressed concern over delay in selection list of B.V Sc and A H Training candidates in Animal and Sheep Husbandry services.

In a press release issued here today, the Association express anguish that selection list for candidates previously been issued by the end of August every year but this year no list has been issued. Association appealed to the Chief Secretary to kindly probe into the matter and issue list as early as possible in the interest of the Departmental candidates.

JAMMU, Dec 20: While two touts were apprehended by the security staff, Army have today organised open rally system for the recruitment to bring more transparency and fair selections of the candidates. The rally has so far received over whelming response

According to a Defence handout, Colonel S S Jamwal, BRO Jammu has said that open rally system has been adopted to save the candidates from touts and agents who were alluring and extorting money from them through various operandi.

He asked all candidates and their relatives those present to beware of such agents and their activities since they under no circumstances can help them in recruitment and asked them to apprehended these people to handover to police.

Two such touts were apprehended by the security staff detailed from organising unit and handed over to local police. They were making false promises to candidates and demanding Rs 15,000 to 25,000 from them. All candidates present were asked to recognise these agents and asked them to beware of them.

It was also highlighted by Col Jamwal that production of certificate of fake educational certificate has not yet reduced since large number of candidates were rejected on this account. These certificates are of eighth and ninth pass mainly from private institutions.

However, some candidates also produced fake tenth pass marks sheets of State Board of School Education. He said that this was alarming situation and one has to check deliberately in order to ensure that such candidates do not get into the prestigious Army organisation.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Army have organised a recruitment rally for about 500 vacancies at Akhnoor which received a massive response from youth hailing from various parts of the State.

Local Formation Commander also visited the rally site and was satisfied with the arrangements. A separate counter was established for Kargil porters and ex-servicemen wards and they were provided all possible assistance for recruitment in the Army.

Panchayats will be fully empowered : CM

Jammu, Dec 20 : Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah today said the Panchayats will be fully empowered to fix developmental priorities and monitor functioning of various agencies at the grass roots level.

Representation of weaker sections in the democratic institutions at basic level is essential for their uplift", he told a deputation of Scheduled Castes from Hiranagar this afternoon. The deputation led by Mr Nand Lal, Vice Chairman, State Scheduled Castes Advisory Board apprised the Chief Minister of their problems and projected various demands.

Dr Abdullah stressed the need for fielding honest and dedicated candidates in the forthcoming Panchayati elections saying that they have to shoulder enormous responsibilities of public service. The Sarpanches, he said, would get representation in the District Development Boards, which will go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

‘Dedication, selfless service and hard work at every level is pre-requisite for steering the state to progress and development’, he said, adding that the representatives of people would be judged by their performance and sincerity. Referring to the lot of people especially weaker sections, he said, much is still to be done in this regard.

Earlier, Mr Nand Lal and other speakers highlighted their problems which interalia included development of areas predominantly inhabited by SCs, unemployment and due representation to them in Panchayats and sought the intervention of the CM in solving these. Dr Abdullah assured that these would be earnestly examined at appropriate level.

Teachers stage massive dharna in Jammu

JAMMU, Dec 20: A massive teachers dharna was held in the office complex of Director School Education, Jammu, under the banner of "Teacher's United Front", an umbrella of different Teacher Organisations viz J&K United School Teachers Federation, Ladakh Teacher's Federation and J&K State Teachers Association.

The teachers from Poonch, Mendhar, Rajouri, Budhal, Dharhal, Thannamandi, Nowshera, Sunder-bani, Kala-Kote, Kathua, Billawar, Bani, Hira Nagar, Lakhanpur, Udhampur, Chenani, Kud, Latti, Mahore and Majalata, Panchari, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and all Educational Zones of Jammu participated.

The Teaching Community after a long span of time held a protest dharna from a joint platform and pledged to fight anti-teachers policies of the Government resulting frustration in the community and decline in educational standard in Jammu and Kashmir State. The speakers hailed the decision of the central leadership regarding the formation of a joint plateform on common minimum programme.

Later, a charter of demands was submitted to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir through Director School Education, the DSE Jammu assured that the demands pertaining to the Directorate will be redressed and the demand pertaining to the Directorate will be redressed and the demand pertaining to Government will be forwarded to the Government. The demands were benefit of earned leave and leave encashment for teachers at par with other employees of J&K Government, senior teacher grade to primary teachers which has not been released since 1995 without any justified reasons, entry grade of teachers as per the recommendations of Central Fifth Pay Commission, initial higher start to qualified teachers, benefit of Time Bound Promotion to Gazetted Cadre, meeting of departmental promotion committee twice in a year, incentive for obtaining higher qualification, Master Grade to all Trained Graduate Teachers, removal of pay anamalies and implementation of transfer policy laid down by the Government itself.

HC issues notice in JM election petition

JAMMU, Dec 20: Mr Justice O P Sharma of Jammu the State High Court Jammu-wing has issued notice to Chief Secretary, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Local Self Government, the Commissioner Secretary to Government, Urban and Local self Government and Administrator, Jammu Municipality, Jammu and directed the Registry to list the case after the service of the Respondents.

This notice has been issued in a writ petition filed by Sheikh Shakeel Ahmad an Advocate in a Public Interest Litigation for seeking a direction to the Respondents to hold the election of Jammu Municipal counsel as envisaged under Section 9 and 11 of the Municipal Act.

In the petition, it has been stated that the last election of Jammu Municipal Counsel was held in 1980 and the said counsel remained in force till 1982, when the respondents in exercise of their powers, as conferred under Section 259 of the J&K Municipal Act, superceded the same and appointed the Administrator to exercise all the powers and duties of the counsel and standing committees, till the re-constitution of New Municipal Counsel.

In the prayer the petitioner sought direction to the respondent state to establish/constitute the counsel of Jammu Municipality by holding election under Section 9 and 11 of Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act.

EJAC leaders hold meeting

SRINAGAR, Dec 20: A meeting of the J&K Employees Joint Action Committee, Kashmir province was held today under under the chairmanship of its provincial convenor, Mr Mohammed Khurshad Aslam.

According to a press release, meeting criticised the adamant attitude of the State Government towards the just and genuine demands of the employees. Meeting demanded release of two DA installments, release of COLA, release of the second installment of the 5th Pay Commission, fixing of 60 years as age of superannuation, regularisation of daily wagers, re-organisation of different departments. Speakers asked the Government to take steps for the negotiation and not to be rigged at their present attitude.

Meeting expressed its gratitude towards the employees for making first day of the strike as 100 percent successful. Speakers appealed to the employees to maintain the same spirit for remaining three days.

Mr Rafiq Ahmed, Sayeed Asharaf Qadri, Nissar Ali Mir, Sayed Nassar Ullah, Mohammed Shafi Lone and Muntazir Mohiuudin of State Council of J&K EJAC, Bashir Ahmed Khan, Mohammed Maqbool Rather, Ghulam Mohammed Rather, Altaf Ahmed, Ab Ahad Khanday, Khursheed Ahmed Zargar, Sayeed Ahmed Shah, Abdul Qayoom Khan of State Employees Conference and Employees and Workers Confederation attended the meeting.

However, reports said that complete strike was observed in the entire Kashmir Valley. Employees held protest demonstrations and organised rallies at SRTC, Forest, Judiciary, Government Press, Information, Food and Supplies, Tourism, PDD Bemina and other complexes.

DIET organises seminar

RAJOURI, Dec 20: Social Science wing of DIET Rajouri organised a seminar on the topic "importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance".

As per a release the teachers of various institutions participated in the seminar. The first prize was shared by Mr Mohd Ayaz Raina of Government Girls High School Thanna Mandi and Jyotshna Gupta of Boys Middle School Rajouri. Second prize was given to Mr Sageer Mirza of HEM Higher Secondary School Rajouri and third prize went to Pervesh Vaid of Government High School Sarjal Soi.

Marh HSS celebrates Parents Day

JAMMU, Dec 20: Parents Day was celebrated today by Government Higher Secondary School, Marh Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr Ajay Sadhotra was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the parents, teachers and the students the Minister said that the students are the architects of the future and today's students have to shoulder the responsibilities of nation building in the near future. If the students are physically and mentally strong only then the future of the nation can be bright.

He said that the State Government is committed to provide best possible facilities to the schools so that the educational system of the State could be further improved. He said that the parents and teachers have to play a vital role to make the future of the family glorious.

The Minister further said that the Government is making all out efforts to increase the literacy rate in the State. He appealed to the teachers and the parents to cooperate with the Government in this task, as the development of a particular area, community, State and the Country depends upon the literacy.

Many cultural programmes were shown on the occasion and the Principal of the school Mr H L Verma projected immediate problems being faced by the school and students. The Minister announced that Rs one lac will be given to the school out of his Constituency Development Fund for equiping the science laboratory and crate work will be done to enlarge the ground area of the school.

Mr Sadhotra also announced that two bath rooms shall be constructed in the school and Rs 5000 would be given to such students who will get Ist, IInd or IIIrd position in the Secondary or Higher Secondary Examination from the Marh Area.
