Militancy has increased mani-folds Mufti seeks NC Govt reply on financial crunch in JK Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 8: Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Mr Mufti Mohd Sayeed has questioned the National Conference Government to give reason behind ongoing financial crunch in the state and asked," where did the money go". He was speaking at a largely attended public meeting, which was jointly addressed by senior Congress leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Pardesh Congress Committee chief Ch Mohd Aslam. The meeting was organised by prominent Congress leader Mr Raman Bhalla and hundreds of people participated in it. Mr Sayeed, also charged the Farooq Government with its failure to contain militancy in the state and alleged that militancy had increased many folds. "Militancy has spread since the installation of Farooq Government and has reached to border districts of Poonch and Rajouri", he added. He claimed that militancy had been largely controlled during the Congress regime due to which Parliamentary elections in the state alongwith rest of the country could be conducted. The former Home Minister said that gun was no solution to militancy and stressed for a political dialogue to solve the Kashmir tangle. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party was worried only to save its Government in Centre and pleasing its allies, he alleged. The Congress leader charged the Vajpayee Government with internationalising the Kashmir issue and described it a weak Government. "Only Congress can provide a stable Government and keep the nation united", he said. Coming back to the state politics, Mufti referred to the ongoing dispute between two Ministers of Farooq Cabinet and asked,"how can a Government ask its citizens to abide by laws of which two minister are involved in unlawful acts". Mr Mufti alleged nepotism in recruitment of Government jobs and said that corruption was on peak. However, Congress will not topple the NC Government by manuplation but only through peoples verdict," he added. While addressing, president of Jammu and Kashmir Pardesh Congress Committee, Ch Mohd Aslam appealed people to strengthen Congress party as it was the only party which could govern the country. Launching a scathing attack on the State as well as Centre Government, he lamented that sentiments of people were being exploited on the name of religion to get their votes. He explained that importance of ballet was extreme in a democratic set up and assured people that their problems would be solved after returning of Congress to power. Former MP and senior Congress leader Mr Mangat Ram Sharma described the NC-BJP alliance as unholy which was based on quid pro quo. He alleged misuse of funds by the ruling National Conference. Mr Mangat Ram confessed that Congress committed a blunder during the last assembly election when prominent youth leader Mr Raman Bhalla was denied the party ticket from Jammu Cantonment constituency. "If Mr Bhalla had been given ticket from Jammu Cantonment, Congress would have one more MLA in the state assembly," he added. Mr Raman Bhalla, while speaking, focused the attention towards local problems and said that people who had hoped some developmental works after the installation of popular Government have been badly disappointed. Mr Bhalla expressed his concern over the price hike and increasing unemployment. He exhorted people to come forward and strengthen Congress party to provide an able and stable Government to the country. Ex MLA Mrs Swaran Lata flayed the Central Government for not declaring Doda and Poonch as disturbed areas. She also expressed concern over the Pak firing in border areas and demanded immediate action in this regard. Mr Ashwani Sharma, prominent Congress leader, criticised the Farooq Government for not paying heed towards the migration of people in border areas. He charged the Chief Minister with his opportunistic approach. Another Congress leader Dr Mehboob Beg, claimed that Farooq Abdullah was not capable for the Chief Ministership and asked the NC Government to enlist its achievements during the past two years since assuming power. Others who addressed the
public meeting included Messrs Madan Lal Sharma, Ex MP
Dharam Pal Sharma, Ch Talib Hussain, Rani Billowria and
Mrs Fareeda Munir. Mr Balwan Singh and Gulchain Singh
Charak and Vijay Sharma were also present there. |
