Population growth in India

Sir,

Root cause of each and every problem in India is rapid growth of population. Previously, India was at serial No. 2 on the graph of population growth in the whole world and perhaps presently it is now toping the list China which was previously toping list since some time have taken drastic steps to reduce the rate of population growth. What was pre-independence in India let us forget about it because Indians were then frustrated and living in strange atmosphere, pressure and ignorance. No doubt at the time of partition/independence there were multiple problems to face by the then Govt. but at that time it was to keep in mind to take hard steps towards population growth, but very less attention was paid towards this important issue. Inspite of obtaining success in each and every field particularly in science and technology India still remained far behind.

Generally people course poverty, illiteracy, corruption social customs etc. but the fact is that India have every kind of resourses and Indians utilized the resources to best of their knowledge but still India remained far behind than the other countries and the reason is only population growth. Now the question arises that what is the best remedy to check population growth, which is very simple. Our Centre as well as State Govts. have nothing incure extra expenditure on it, simply by declaring certain attractions that will solve the problem. Firstly Govt require to give first preference to people in every field who posses only one or two issues. We have certain categories reserved for employment, training, loans etc. why not to add major percentage with first preference for those who own have none. First preference should be given to those persons who posses only one or two children he may be belonging to any religion, cast, creed, sex or colour and there should be no State cadre for them. Bank loans, Education loans/scholarships, industrial loans, allotment of Govt. flates, plots etc.

Persons with multiple children should be retired from Govt. services immediately so that it would be lesson for their youngsters.

Immediate steps towards this direction is needed to be taken if the Govt. is interested in solving the burning prbolems of the country. Children of those parents who would be numbering one or two should be given free desired education in true sense. In short over all facilities in every field should be provided to those children who would be having one brother or one sister only.

There is nothing alternative to settle the problems of the country till the growth of population is not checked well in time, which ever party may rule the country. Everything depends on less population growth there lies the prosperity and happiness.

Why do alcoholic beverages make you drunk?

Sir,

Alcohol is a narcotic which is how we describe a substance which enters the nerve cells quickly and tends to paralyse them. But before any narcotic paralyses it stimulant and nerve cells, putting them in a state of excitement. So alcohol affect the brain. The first effect is a feeling of stimulation. Action and speech seem to be speeded up. The skin gets redder blood pressure rises, the heart beats faster and breathing is quickened.

But alcohol soon exerts a depressing affect on the brain. Our ability to observe, think and pay attention is affected. As the higher functions of the brain are paralysed, the power to control moods is lost. Another serious effect is that inhibitions are relaxed. In our body nerve fibres called inhibitory fibres act as brakes in the nervous system. They are developed as the result of education and training and make us disciplined restrained people.

Under the influence of alcohol, these inhibitory fibres are paralysed. Our control becomes relaxed, our judgement is unclear and we are ready to say and do things that we would never do if our minds were normal. Alcohol has produced a state of drunkness.

Since alcohol does first act as a stimulant, if it is taken into the body in weak solutions. It will continue to act as a stimulant rather than as a narcotic.

Adhoc teachers

Sir,

We have been teaching the degree classes at college level which need expert knowledge, high degree of involvement and latest developments about the subjects. This require additional books and magazines which each one of us have to buy from our own pocket money.

That though we work for whole of the session yet we are drawing salary for not more than seven months. The salary paid to us is much below the dignity of a college teacher.

That we are paid a consolidated amount of Rs. 4000/- per month which is below the amount paid to a primary teacher. It will not be out of place to mention here that a post graduate teacher working in Kendriya Vidyalaya is paid Rs. 7500/- per months. Not only this the adhoc teacher working in Engineering Colleges were getting Rs. 6000/- per month according to the old pay scales. We fail to understand as to why colleges teacher working on academic arrangement are given the lowest priority though they are teaching in degree classes.

That it was the policy of the Government that all adhoc appointees were getting a consolidated pay in which they were appointed. The same was true of college teachers also. We would like to request your goodself to revive the same old Government policy and place us in the minimum grades of lecturer recommended by University Grant Commission.

That all other Government employees are getting enhanced Dearness allowance city, compensatory allowance, medical allowances, and house rent allowance. Unfortunately we also have to bear the same expenses and face the rising prices but our present salary is much below our dignity that can suffice our basic economic needs.

We, therefore, sincerely request you to look into our genuine problems. Keeping in view our status and dignity and raise our consolidated amount to atleast Rs. 8000/- per month as recommended by the University Grant Commission.

Yours etc.....

Adhoc arrangement.

What about real astrologers?

Sir,

Apropos to Mr K.B. Raina's letter under the caption 'Fake Astrologers' in your esteemed daily dated 28th instant, I would like to say that fake astrologers apart, what about those who are supposed to be real ones? And one 'Astrological Magazine' from Bangalore did make absolutely a wrong prediction in the 1977 annual issue of the said magazine. In the forecast for the year 1977 among other things, he did forecast that Mrs Gandhi would retain power but she lost two months thereafter say in March, 1977 when elections were held.

What Mr. K.B. Raina has to say about such astrologers supposed to be well versed in astrology?

Real tribute

Sir,

The Police Commemoration Day was observed on 21 October 1998 to pay tributes to the valiant and patriotic officers and jawans of the police and paramilitary forces who fought with the militants to the last ditch for protecting the unity and integrity of the country. On this occasion it was befitting to remember the brave young men of J&K like SI Daljeet Singh, DSP Gulbadan Singh Bhau, ASI Mohd Siddique, S I Ajay Gupta and countless others, who sacrificed their precious lives for their motherland without caring for themselves. How can the people of J&K over foreget the selfless sacrifices of these martyrs? The least we can do to honour their sacrifices is to render all possible help to the security forces in tracking down the militants and anti-national. This will be our real tribute to these martyrs.

Yours etc............
