pc reservations demanded Govt discriminating with Muslims of Jammu : Majid Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 1: Muslim Federation Jammu has charged the National Conference Government with pursuing the policy of discrimination with Muslims of Jammu province especially those living in tree districts of Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua. Addressing a press conference here today, Federation president Mr Abdul Majid said the seven year period of Governors rule had resulted into an era of development and co-operation. The Governors rule had several achievements. This was for the first time that three members of Muslim community were taken in the Development Board for Jammu, he pointed out. However, with the take over of democratic Government, the things started moving in reverse gear. Today, the Muslims of Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua districts were a discriminated lot and resentment was brewing among them which could take a serious turn, he warned. Mr Majid said not even one per cent of Muslim youths had been recruited in Government services from these three districts. The Muslim-dominated localities had been neglected in case of development. "A nominated MLA and MLC taken from Jammu as representatives of Muslim community by the National Conference are not true representatives of the community as they dont know even their basis problems", the Federation chief said, adding "it was a mockery with the Muslim community to give them such representatives". Advocating the demand for 15 per cent reservations to Muslims in all spheres of lift including services atleast for next 20 years, Mr Majid said "this is must to uplift the community and bring it at par with the society". He said even when the nation celebrated golden jubilee of its independence, the Muslim-dominated localities dont have proper water, power and all other basic necessities of life. "What to talk of rural areas, the Muslim localities even within the City limits have been deprives of basic amenities", he alleged. Mr Majid warned that Federation will be forced to launch an agitation if their demands were not considered by the Government. The Federation has convened a convention of Muslims in the first week of December to chalk out its strategy, he said. He demanded that special funds for development of backward and Kandi areas be released as Muslim concentrated rural areas are totally under developed and lacks in basic amenities of life. It is demanded that liberal grants be earmarked for the development of Muslim populated rural areas in time-bound schedule. Drinking water, road and bridges, schools, hospital, electricity supply and other amenities of life be provided to these areas, which are totally neglected for the last over 50 years. The funds under Gujjars Tribal sub-plan are not properly utilised for the upliftment of the areas thickly in habited by the Gujjars and Bakerwals, a release issued in the press conference said. Urdu Language being the state's official language has been ignored in the State. The position is worse in districts of Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur. We demand that Urdu teacher be provided in the three districts from primary up to higher secondary level as 99% schools in these three districts are without Urdu teachers. This is adversely affecting the educational system and ultimately the new generation is deprived of an opportunity to learn Urdu which is a rich language and which contains our history, the release said. It is unfortunate that despits repeated demands from the local population, educational authorities have not provided Urdu teachers in any school. The imparting of Urdu subject be made compulsory in all the private schools as well from primary to higher secondary level. Similarly the work on establishment of an Urdu Academy is delayed which we demand should be expedited as announced by the Chief Minister, the release said. It said E P and Wakaf Property is not properly managed and the statutory interests of evacuees have been eroded gradually. We demand that euacuee property be preserved and the statutory rights of evacuees be protected as per the Euacuee Property Act. Similarly Wakaf property in Jammu Province is not properly managed and the Tehsil Wakaf committees have not been constituted for the last over 15 years despite a specific provision in the Wakaf Act of 1978. Muslim Federation demands that in the entire Jammu province Tehsil Wakaf committees be constituted and the Wakaf Property be presserved and utilised for the welfare of the Muslim Community, the release said. It demanded widening of road from Panjbakter up to tehsil via-Talab Khatinkan. The project of road widening from Natraj Hotel up to tehsil via-Panjabkter be undertaken immediately. Unfortunately this project despite approval have not been undertaken. To check Traffic hazard in Jammu city the construction of 2nd Tawi Bridge be completed in the shortest possible time as this will shorten the distance from Railway to Jammu city. The regional imbalance and discrimination be put to an end. The Government must ensure the protection of the rights of all the religious and ethnic identities and minorities in the State where ever they are. The release said thousands
of State subjects in Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua have been
issued to non-state subject thereby depriving the local
population of their rights. It demanded a thorough probe
into the issuance of all such state subjects and demand
cancellation of all such PRC's which have been issued
illegally and with malafide intention. The influse of
non-state subject has adversely affected the Dogra
Culture and ultimately the educated youth of Jammu are
bound to be deprived of their rights in every field of
life it these illegal State subjects are not cancelled,
it said. Vaid expresses concern over
