| Rovai thrashes Udomchoke to lift
second title BANGALORE,
Oct 31 :
Second seed Federico Rovai (Sweden) outclassed
Thailands Danai Udomchoke in straight sets
today to clinch his second successive title in
the ITF Mens Satellite Circuit Tennis
Tournament.
Rovai, who won the
second leg at Hyderabad, exhibited some stunning
cross court tennis to down his opponent 6-2 6-4
in 65 minutes and take home the winners
cheque of 812.5 US dollars in the third leg here.
The 25-year-old
Sweden, who proved too good for Udomchoke,
started dominating the match from the word go,
breaking the Thais serve in the first game
of the first set and in the seventh.
The second set saw
tough resistance from Udomchoke, but it was not
enough to prevent rovai from taking the match and
the title.
It is very
nice to make a come back after an injury. I am
looking forward to masters next week and there is
no target as such. It was pretty good to play
against Udomchoke, as any one may upset the
proceedings in the game, Rovai said.
In the first set,
Udomchoke lost the first game after leading 40-0,
when Rovai came up with some blistering shots to
capture three points in a row.
The Thai recovered
soon and managed to hold serve till the seventh,
when he was broken by Rovai, who held the last
game with ease and took the set 6-2.
In the second set,
though Udomchoke lost the first game again, he
fought back with some intelligent shots. But the
sheer pace of his opponent tired him and he was
pushed to the baseline most of the time.
Udomochoke was
able to return powerful serves from his opponent,
but the lack of stamina and briskness prevented
him from breaking Rovai.
The Thai almost
broke in the sixth game going up 30-40, but,
Rovai recovered to hold serve and lead 4-2.
Rovai lost serve
in the eighth game. The Swedish player double
faulted to gift the gae to Uomchoke to even
scores at 4-4.
But the consistent
rovai fought back in the ninth game and broke
back the thai. He ended the match in style by
winning the last game without conceding a single
point.
Udomchoke, who
earned 15 ATP points and a cheque for U.S.
Dollars 562.50 (about Rs 24,050) said: I
had lost to Rovai at Hyderabad in quarters 6-2,
6-3. I was tired after hectic three weeks of
continuous tennis. (PTI)
