Tendulkar
among ten greatest batsmen
SYDNEY,
Dec 15:
Indias cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been
nominated as one of the top ten batsmen in the
history of the sport by an Australian newspaper
here.
Tendulkar figures
a spot below former opener Sunil Gavaskar who is
ranked ninth, in a list of the ten greatest
batsmen compiled by new south wales selector Neil
Marks for the sun herald.
The list is headed
by Sir Don Bradman (Australia) followed by sir
Garfield Sobers (West Indies), Victor Trumper
(Australia), Len Hutton (England), Vivian
Richards (West Indies), Greg Chappell
(Australia), Neil Harvey (Australia), Everton
Weekes (West Indies).
At the end of the
1990s, when the game is more universal than
its ever been, he is the worlds most
feared batsman, a player capable of decimating an
attack, the newspaper said of Tendulkar.
The paper listed
timing, eye, and ability to hit the good ball for
four as Tenulkars strengths.
Batsmen were
selected for their strokemaking ability,
influence on their cricketing generation, length
of career and popularity with the crowds, besides
their runs and averages, the paper said. (PTI)
Identify
culprit or quit office: Kapil
NEW
DELHI, Dec 15: As the revelations of Mark Waugh
and Shane Warne sparked international outrage
against match-fixing and betting, former captain
Kapil Dev said there is certainly some truth in
the allegations and asked the Indian cricket
administrators to make efforts to identify the
culprit soon or quit their office.
There is some
truth in the match-fixing allegations because the
topic has been going on for quite a long time...
And if the administrators also take a long time
to find the truth behind the allegations, they
should not be there (holding their offices), the
1983 World Cup winning skipper told a private TV
channel last night.
Asked what the
administrators should do to get at the truth, the
worlds highest wicket taker said they or
the Government should constitute a fresh
commission to investigate the matter.
When reminded
about the Justice Chandrachud Commission,
instituted by BCCI after allrounder Manoj
Prabhakars match-fixing allegations, Kapil
said, I think that was an eye wash.
Australians Mark
Waugh and Shane Warne rocked the cricket world on
Wednesday last when they admitted they had been
paid thousands of dollars by an Indian bookmaker
to provide information on pitch and weather
conditions during matches on a 1994
sub-continental tour.
The disclosure
prompted International Cricket Council to
institute a Commission to go into the
allegations. (PTI)
