Remove untouchability Sir, This has reference to the letter ''A Rich and Ancient Civilisation'' DE dated 19.11.98 by Shri Predhuman K Joseph Dhar. The author of the letter undoubtedly a learned person having more than required knowledge of Indian History has rightly defined the Indian culture and civilisation as product of interplay of different religious ideologies with diverse creed colour and life, style etc.It is also a reality that Indian way of life is traditionally characterised by tolerance and respect of religious faiths other than one's own faith. That was the basic of Incorporation of Article- 15 in the Constitution of India. Mr Dhar will agree with me that the Historical events are continued process of happenings, least concerned to the likings or dislike of any individual, group of persons, class or community taking place in a country with the evolution of society and are always recorded in Chronological order by the historians without any bias. The orders of the Uttar Pradesh Government to some intellectuals to re-write History by deleting the period of glorification of Muslims/Mugals rulers is nothing but a ''political agenda'' and an attempt to subvert the history. Unlike, Britishers the Pathans, Muslims, and Mugals settled in India and adopted Indian culture and therefore cannot be termed as aggressors, like Aryans who also came from across Hindu Kush and settled herein India. One must know that our civilisation is known as 'Ganga-Jamani civilisations'' excepting an event of bad taste of partition which is also a part of History. The role of all religions was positive and that is the reason irrespective of our faith. We visit the ''Tombs' or Zayarets of Peers, Fakir etc. This is our cultural heritage. The role of Hindus/Muslims, Sikh had been appreciable in freedom struggle. Can we forget the role of ''Bahadur Shah Zaffar'' the last Mughal Emperor in the mutiny of 1857 and separate it from the role played by Rani Jansi or Tantya Tope. Can one lost sight the role of Saif-ud-Din Kichloo, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai and others in the freedom movement. Unfortunately, the politicians have been using the religion for their political ends and never made earnest efforts to instill ''National spirit''. Besides religion they have raised regionalism, casteism and what not. The people of India have on their own maintained communal/religious amity ignoring such efforts at all time. It was in this context that Sir, Dr Mohammad Iqbal said ''Kuchh Bat Hai Ke Hasti Mitati Nei Hamari''. What Mr Dhar wanted to prove by referring Vasante Sathe will be well known to him, but he must known that Mr Sathe is also a politician and have his political ambitions. I perfectly agree with Mr Dhar that Indian cultural heritage back to the thousand years and vedas are the basis of our civilisation. He must be aware that there was no distinction between touchables/untouchable at that time. Manu Maharaj who divided the society in four Varnas also pronounced that the Varna of an individual will depend upon his ability and not by class. Some vested interests bestowed it by birth later. This caused the social evil of untouchability which still prevail in the country despite being banned after independence. I will recall Mr Dhar of his own writings ''Recognise Dalit Christians'' wherein he himself stated that Dalit ''untouchable'' Christians suffer the same social, educational and economic disabilities as they were subjected to before adopting Christianity. The foremost task before every Indian is to remove the social evil of untouchability, get the right of equal social status restored and also their economic upliftment. They must thwart all efforts of politicians of all shades including CPI/CPI (M) to use their plight for their political ends, whatsoever these may be. Yours etc... |
Vande Mataram mispronounced Sir, On 27th of November, 98 I happened to watch the Hindi Movie ''Gandhi Se Mahatama Tak'' on star plus. Towards the end of film, there is the Song ''Vande Mataram'' sung in a chorus by renowned singer Usha Uthap. It was quite disheartening to listen that the opening words of the song were repeatedly mispronounced by Usha Uthap as ''Vande Mataram''. This besides causing disrespect to the Song, has added insult to the injury of Hindus, whose sentiments are running higher over the unnecessary hue and cry made by other community members over the innocous matter of making recital of ''Vande Mataram'' compulsory in schools. It is all the more shocking when it escapes the attention of the person of the calibre of Shyam Benegal (Director of the said film) who has such a fabulous eye for perfection. Yours etc.. |
Imbibe patriotism Sir, Nothing happens of its own. In order to attain something is to be lost. Similar is the case of our freedom from the British Empire, and in snatching our freedom from the cruel hands of Britishers we the Indians have lost the precious live of our heroes like M K Gandhi, S C Bos, M A Azad, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, Jhansi Ki Rani and many others. But are the above mentioned heroes still considered to be the heroes? The only answer to this question is no. We remember these great personalities only on their Birthdays that too as a formality (some of us wait eagerly for their birthdays not to celebrate but to enjoy that day as a holiday). The freedom fighters would be repenting that for whom they had lost their lives. Our country, India, so called ''Sone Ki Chirya'' is no more Golden as it is loosing its culture and moral values day by day. Whatever evil exists, in world it also prevails in India. Besides militancy, corruption and dowry system which are deep rooted evils, the new problem which is afflicting the society, is the expansion of Indian film Industry the main aim of which is to entertain the people. By deviating from their duty the directors and producers of the Indian Movies are not only making vulgar films, but the language of songs is too obscene. Take the example of ''Mera Paoon Bhari Hoo Gaya'' a double meaning song, which is gaining popularity among the masses now a days. No doubt the Government had set up a Censor Board for this purpose but this Board also seems to be a party of corrupts. In order to gain more and more money they release these types of films and songs and get their pockets heavy. And what to speak of ours leaders (the cream of the country) who despite objecting these acts always remain busy in pulling each others leg to get themselves in power. You might have noticed in the recent assembly elections that some parties were highlighting onions and others Saraswati Vandana and Vande Matram but none raised voice against vulgarity. The whole thing behind all this problem is educational system. Our educational system is so defective that it does not inculcate the sense of patriotism among the students (the wealth of nation). Books which are said to be a revolutionary stock (if written from that point of view) are neither containing any patriotic lessons nor something that sharpens the mind. Therefore, in such circumstances the student community gets bored from such books and indulges in wrong deeds and wrong thinking . If the trend continues at the same speed then it is clear that people would not worship God also who is the supreme power. Lastly, I would like to pen down a verse in this connection ''Na Samjo Gay Tou Mit Jao Ge Ae Hindustan Waloo, Tumhari Dastan Tak Bhi Na Hogi Dastanoon Main''. Yours etc.. |
Plea to Accountant General Sir, After uninterrupted cajolery and streneous efforts, the State Government' mind, devoid of compassion, melted resulting in the issue of Govt Order No: 275-F of 1998 dt 14.10.1998 whereunder the pensions of pre 1-4-1987-retirees were re-rationalised with effect from 1.1.1996 falling in line with the recommendation of the Central 5th Pay Commission, who otherwise were allowed paltry sums as pensions just as much as the present pensioners would prefer giving in alms on Saturdays in the name of Shani Devta. The revision and subsequent fixation of pensions afresh of these pensioners do not seem to have a smooth sailing because the Accountant General's office which has to do this duty appears shirking because the job involves a bit of labour which they are not prepared to undertake; thus putting these pensioners to wilful obscurity and agony. We request the Accountant General, Jammu & Kashmir, not to put burdles in doing the job and throw these old persons to mental and physical difficulties. May it be added here that this component of retirees is shrinking with the passing of time and in case refixation is delayed under this or that pretext, there will be increase in the assessment of family pensions rather than doing good to them during their life time. We trust human feeling will prevail. Yours etc.... |
