JAMMU, Dec 3: Second seed Kamal Rohmetra entered the Billiards semi-finals beating Amit Mehta in the 8th Billiards and Snooker Championship being played at Billiards hall, M A Stadium here today.

In an another match Rajbeer Singh outplayed Vishal Abrol to enter the second round. The third match played between K K Khanna and Sanjeev Gupta. Khanna beat Sanjeev Gupta with a margin of 33 points.

The score: Kamal Rohmetra bt Amit Mehta 358-221; Rajbeer Singh bt Vishal Abrol 321-235; K K Khanna bt Sanjeev Gupta 335-302.

Messrs. Surjeet Singh Balowria, Raveez and Shanker Dass were scorer.

Churchill Brothers beat Young Heros in Soccer

JAMMU, Dec 3: Churchill Brothers entered the quarter-finals outplaying Young Heros 4-2 in the tie breaker in Ist All India Sher-e-Kashmir Cup Football Tournament being played at Mini Stadium here today.

Both the teams gave a fervent fight before the match ended in a goalless draw. From Churchill Brothers, Raman Sandhu, Klint Mattoo, Deepak and Rakesh made successful plenty shoot outs, while Lateef Mohd missed his kick.

For Young Heros, Narinder and Rakesh were the successful shooters, while Rajinder and Ashok missed their chance.

The another match which held between R&B and Iqbal Sports Club also ended in a 1-1 draw in the stipulated time. It was a sheer hard luck for Iqbal Sports Club, who were leading by one goal till the 57th minutes of the match when Munaf Ahmed headed the ball into the goal and equalised the score.

It was followed by tie breaker in which R&B emerged winner by 3-1. From R&B Farooq, Bashir and Munaf Ahmed score the goal, while, Mohd Ashraf and Rashid missed their plenty shoot outs. For Iqbal Sports Club only Ashiq could convert his kick into a goal. Mohd Iqbal was the goalkeeper for R&B, while Iqbal Sports Club’s goal was guarded by Shabir Ahmed.

Mr Kailash Chibber, veteran footballer, was the guest of honour in the first match. Romesh Chander, David, Nazir and Mazid were scorer in today’s matches.

JAMMU, Dec 3: Deadly bowling by left arm medium pacer Pranav Gupta (26-14-39-7), who took seven wickets, assisted Jammu and Kashmir to bundled out Himachal Pradesh on 138 runs on the first day of three day Vijay Merchant Trophy match being played at M A Stadium here today.

Jammu and Kashmir was playing on 72 without losing any wickets at the end of the day after starting their inning 22 minutes before tea. Asif Jeelani was playing at 51 runs, while at the other end Vimarsh Kaw was on the crease with 17 runs.

Pranav demolished the Himachal batting line up after he took first three wicket for 9 runs, including Prashant Kumar and Pankaj Kumar, who went to pavilion without opening their account.

The face saving 59 runs partnership between Naveen Honda (52, 6x4s) and Shashi Kumar (31) helped Himachal to reach the 138 runs mark.

Naveen Honda played a long inning remained on the crease for 161 minutes.

Sumeet Silwal and Inderjeet Singh clinched two and one wicket respectively for Jammu and Kashmir.

MAM College beat DC Kathua by 121 runs

JAMMU, Dec 3: Individual half centuries by Rupinder Singh and Varinder helped MAM College Jammu beat Degree College Kathua by 121 runs in the Inter-College Cricket Tournament being played at Jammu University here today.

Playing first after winning the toss, MAM College scored 213 in 39.3 over. Rupinder Singh (64, 8x4s) and Varinder (54, 5x4s) were the highest scorer, while Rajat Jaswal made quick 29 runs with the help of one six and two boundaries facing just 15 deliveries.

For DC Kathua, Nitin clinched five wickets, while, Rakesh got two wickets.

Chasing run rate of above five runs per over, DC Kathua could not reached the century mark and surrendered at a total of 92 when 9 overs were yet to be bowled.

Om Parkash was the highest scorer from Kathua, who made 32 runs with the help of four boundaries. No other batsmen from Kathua could score in double digit.

For MAM College, medium pacer, Prakash ( 6-1-15-3) bowled economically and got three important wickets. While, Satwinder and Harjinder clinched two wickets each.

Final score: MAM College 213 in 39.3 overs.

Degree College Kathua 92 all out in 30.5 overs.

Result: DC Kathua won the match by 121 runs.

Baroda, M’rashtra share points

BARODA, Dec 3: Martin Jacob’s unbeaten 103 enabled Baroda to share three points with Maharashtra as the hosts were 308 for four in their first innings in reply to the visitors 488 on the final day of the West Zone Ranji Trophy league encounter here today.

Baroda never took up the challenge. Even though except for spinner Mandar Sane, who claimed two wickets, none of the Maharashtra bowlers bowled with any purpose.

The fact that medium pacers Iqbal Siddique and Milind Kulkarni bowled 73 overs between them clearly indicated Maharashtra skipper Surendra Bhave’s intentions.

Baroda openers R Swaroop and Connors Williams added 16 runs for first wicket. Williams was first to go edging Mandar Sane to Kinikar in the first slip for 91 that contained eight boundaries.

Swaroop left immediately for 66 snicking the same bowler as Sugwekar took a low catch in first slip. Atul Bedade facing 95 balls made a painstakingly slow 15.

Martin contributed 76 runs for the fourth-wicket stand. This is Jacob’s 13th ton and second consecutive of the season. Another remained unbeaten on 8.

Parsana’s Gritty knock saves Saurashtra

RAJOKT, Dec 3: A gritty, unbeaten knock of 115 runs by Hitesh Parsana saved Saurashtra from conceding a first innings lead to Mumbai as the hosts shared three points each with the visitors on the last day of the four-day West Zone Ranji Trophy league match here today.

Saurashtra were 400 for eight in reply to the visitors’ 567 for five declared. Ubaihas 11 points to its tally while Saurashtra has 13.

Overnight batsmen, Jagdish Dhamecha and Hitesh Parsana resumed their knock this morning under pressure and Dhamecha returned immediately at overnight score of six only.

With the pressure increasing on home team, Parsana on the other end launched a fightback and scored an unbeaten 115 runs that came off 370 minutes and in 320 balls. It was studded with 17 boundaries and two sixes.

He was ably supported by Rajesh Garsondia, who batted for 128 minutes for his 20 runs.
