96 Army personnel honoured on R-Day

Udhampur, Jan 25: The awards announced on the occasion of the Republic Day once again saw the highest number of gallantry awards (96) being conferred on the troops in Northern Command.
Amongst the awardees is Maj Anup Joshep Manjali, who has been awarded Kirti Chakra which is the second highest gallantry award in the nation. Maj Manjali, a resident of Mumbai was commissioned on Jun 11, 2005 in 12 Bihar. In the early hours of Sept 1, 2012 while leading his patrol in a forest area in Kupwara sector, he noticed suspicious movement in a ‘Dhok’. Having cordoned off the area in a daring act of courage and leadership, he crawled and lobbed a grenade killing one terrorist instantly. He killed two other terrorists from a close quarters when they were trying to flee. Maj Manjali during this act displayed inspiring leadership, indomitable spirit and bravery of the highest order for which he has been awarded the Kirti Chakra.
In addition, one Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), four Atti Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM), five Shaurya Chakra (SC), nine Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), two Bar to Sena Medal, thirty one Sena Medal (Gallantry), seventeen Sena Medal (Distinguished), eight Mention in Despatch, two Bar to Vishist Seva Medal and sixteen Vishist Seva Medal were also awarded to officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks of Northern Command.
