90 kgs of poppy straw seized at Toll Post Lakhanpur

KATHUA, Feb 18:Continuing drive against smugglers, a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Lakhanpur Police foiled a major smuggling bid when they seized 90 kgs of poppy straw being carried outside the State.
According to a spokesman of Excise Department a vehicle bearing registration number. PB09X-2075 carried goods (wooden chips) of an Industrial Unit and claimed exemption from payment of Toll on these goods that were consigned by M/s. Classic Popular Works, Gariend, Budgam to M/s. Kuantum Paper Ltd, Shala Khurd Hoshiarpur, Punjab. However, on physical checking of the vehicle, it was found carrying five bags of Bhukki along with wooden chips. The vehicle along with wooden chips and contraband item (Bhukki) has been seized by the Police Station, Lakhanpur for further action under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise & Taxation Officer Virinder Singh Pawar and SHO Police Station Lakhanpur Kulbir Choudhary along with Excise Inspectors Anil Kumar, Anmolak Singh & Sanjeev Khajuria, Excise Sub-Inspector Surinder Bagal, Excise Guard Sham Lal and the team of Police Station Lakhanpur.
In this regard a case FIR No. 19/2017 u/s 8/15/18 NDPS has been lodged in Police Station Lakhanpur.
The Senior Sudpt. Of Police, Kathua Pawan Parihar and The Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur Rajesh Sharma and appreciated the efforts of the respective staff in detecting the instant contraband items and enjoined upon them to work with more zeal and in coordination with different departments / agencies.
