83% students pass 10th class exams

Srinagar Jan 12: Over 83 percent students, who appeared in 10th class examinations conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) in Kashmir division last year, were declared successful today.
A BOSE official said that 58293 students including 30070 boys and 28223 girls appeared in the examinations of which 84.61 per cent boys and 81.45 per cent girls passed.
He said of the successful candidates, 3413 secured A1 grades (90 to 100 per cent marks) while as many as 7898 students secured A2 grade (80-89 per cent) and 9353 secured B1 grade (70-79 per cent).
The results were announced today for the examinations which were conducted in November-December last year.
The BOSE, however, this time introduced the system of grades instead of the usual marks system in the papers.
The BOSE official said that the toppers for the class 10th examinations will be announced after March exams.
It is worth to mention here that following the unrest in the Valley, the Government announced choice for class 10 and class 12 students to appear in examinations, as per their interest, in November 2016 or March 2017.
The BOSE had made it clear that students who are interested to appear in full syllabus will be given an opportunity to appear in exams of both classes in March 2017.
Over 98 percent students of class 10 appeared in their examinations which were held amid tight security arrangements while the remaining two per cent students will appear in the examination in March this year.
As per official figures, in the exams, which had commenced on November 15, 2016, 55500 students out of 56277 appeared in the exams while 777 remained absent.
