POONCH/ RAJOURI, Apr 19: The police seized eight vehicles loaded with 45 bovine animals being smuggled to Kashmir via Mughal Road in Poonch and Rajouri districts last night.
Official sources said that two police parties from Mendhar Police Station, led by SI Abdul Karim and SI Showkat Amin under the supervision of SDPO Riaz Tantray laid nakas at two locations in Mendhar area during last night. They found total 27 bovine animals being smuggled in five Tata Mobile vehicles bearing registration numbers- JK-12A/ 2971, JK-12/9963, JK-12/ 1989, JK-12A/1929 and JK-12/ 9365.
The Police seized all the five vehicles and arrested its drivers smuggling these cattle to Kashmir via Mighal Road. They were identified as- Nassir Ahmed, Javed Iqbal, Mohd Mushtaq, Mohd Bashir and Mohd Taz, all residents of Bhera and Bhatidhar in Mendhar. The Police registered two FIRs, 56/2018 and 57/2018 against them. The milch animals were rescued from their clutches.

Meanwhile, Thannamandi police party intercepted three Tata Mobile vehicles during last night at a naka on Thanna-Bafliaz Road under the supervision of SDPO, Iftikhar Choudhary and found 18 bovine animals being smuggled to Kashmir Valley via Mughal Road.
The police claimed that when the drivers of the vehicles noticed police naka ahead, they stopped their vehicles at some distance and then escaped to the fields leaving behind vehicles. While one of them returned to the spot later and was arrested, the others escaped. He has been identified as Yaseer Hussain, son of Nazir Hussain, resident of Khablan, in Rajouri. A case has been registered in this connection. Further investigation was in progress, police said.
