JAMMU, July 27: On 26th day of 48 day long Amarnath yatra, 791 pilgrims paid obeisance to Ice Lingam at holy cave situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet in deep Himalayas in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
However yatris movement remained affected during the day due to heavy rainfall at yatra tracks of Baltal and Pahalgam as well as holy cave for the entire day forcing the authorities to suspend the yatra from both tracks during the day.
According to an official spokesman 791 pilgrims performed darshan at holy cave and they mostly included those who had reached late last night at Panchtarni and who left for darshan early this morning from Baltal. He said with this the total pilgrims performing darshan in holy cave has reached 2,08,633 since the yatra started on July 2.
The spokesman said 490 pilgrims were allowed to leave for holy cave from Baltal early this morning but later, the yatra was suspended after heavy rains lashed the area up to holy cave. Earlier 1,122 pilgrims reached from Jammu to holy cave but they were not allowed to proceed ahead due to heavy rain fall.
He said both the tracks have become slippery due to heavy rains forcing the authorities to suspend the yatra later. The spokesman said 58 pilgrims proceeded from Chandanwari to holy cave early this morning but yatra was suspended from Nunwan. Even the air sorties for carrying the yatris were also suspended for the day.
He said 433 pilgrims are camping at Nunwan base Camp while over 600 are camping at Baltal Base camp. Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 540 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas for holy cave today in a cavalcade of 16 vehicles amid tight security arrangements today.
