76648 houseless people identified in 25 towns: DyCM

JAMMU, Jan 23: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today said the Housing Survey Demand (HSD) in 25 cities/towns of the State has been completed in first phase under Prime Minister’s Awaas Yojna (PMAY-HFA- Urban Mission) and 76,648 houseless families / beneficiaries were identified for covering under Beneficiary Lead Individual House Construction Component of the scheme.
Replying to a question of  Ghulam Nabi Monga in the Upper House today, the Deputy Chief Minister said that HSD of remaining 55 towns and cities in the State would be undertaken once approval of  Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Elevation is received for which request has already been made by the State Government.
Giving the breakup of beneficiaries under different categories of the scheme, Dr Singh said that besides beneficiary led constructions, 15,300 would be covered under Slum Redevelopment, 24523 under Credit Linked Subsidy and 5200 under Affordable Housing Partnership taking the total number of beneficiaries to 121671.
Dr Singh said that the Centre has approved six projects for four towns including Baramulla, Udhampur, Anantnag and Kathua with 480 beneficiaries/EWS households under Beneficiaries Lead Individual House Construction component of PMAY-HFA (Urban Mission). He said in this regard steps are underway to get the construction of houses for the identified beneficiaries families completed.
DyCM said the Mission envisages addressing the housing shortage among the urban poor including the slum dwellers. He said the goal of the scheme is also to ensure provision of pacca house to all the urban houseless by the year 2022.
Legislators Naresh Kumar Gupta, Ali Mohammad Dar and Yasir Reshi raised the supplementary to the main question.
