7-yr imprisonment awarded in attempt to rape case

Srinagar, Mar 11: A local court today sentenced an accused for attempt to rape of three year old girl.
The court of 2nd Additional District Judge Srinagar presided by Sham Lal convicted Mohammad Yaseen Beigh of Tangmarg for attempting to commit rape on an infant way back in the year 2012.
The accused Beigh has been found guilty in the case and awarded sentence of 7 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10000 for committing offence under section 511 of RPC read with 376RPC.
Court further directed in case the accused fails to pay the fined amount then he shall undergo rigorous imprisonment of two months in addition to 7 years rigorous imprisonment.
“The period of detention undergone by the accused in the judicial lockup shall be set off against the period of sentence awarded to the convict”, reads the judgment.
A case of rape was registered in police station Batamaloo in 2012 under FIR No. 20/2012 for the commission of offence under 376 RPC.
