6797 in fray for Phase-III

SRINAGAR, Nov 9: For the Phase-III of Panchayat Polls, 1371 candidates are in the fray for 553 Sarpanch Halqas and 5426 candidates for 4279 Panch Wards across the State after scrutiny of nominations. Voting and counting for Phase-III of Panchayat Polls is scheduled be held on November 24.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Shaleen Kabra, for Phase-III, 129 candidates are in the fray for 59 Sarpanch Halqas and 532 candidates for 455 Panch wards in Kupwara; 18 candidates for 8 Sarpanch Halqas and 70 for 66 Panch wards in Bandipora; 51 candidates for 40 Sarpanch Halqas and 151 for 348 Panch Halqas in Baramulla; 20 candidates for 27 Sarpanch Halqas and 41 for 215 Panch wards in Ganderbal; 23 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 84 for 272 Panch wards in Budgam; 11 candidates for 22 Sarpanch Halqas and 29 for 172 Panch wards in Shopian; 4 candidates for 47 Sarpanch Halqas and 1 for 337 Panch wards in Kulgam; 90 candidates for 38 Sarpanch Halqas and 357 for 294 Panch wards in Kargil; 69 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 240 for 234 Panch wards in Leh; 172 candidates for 56 Sarpanch Halqas and 793 for 406 Panch wards in Kishtwar; 126 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 475 for 234 Panch wards in Doda; 49 candidates for 13 Sarpanch Halqas and 180 for 95 Panch wards in Ramban; 138 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 613 for 256 Panch wards in Udhampur; 210 candidates for 47 Sarpanch Halqas and 782 for 353 Panch wards in Kathua; 162 candidates for 40 Sarpanch Halqas and 651 for 320 Panch wards in Rajouri and 99 candidates for 28 Sarpanch Halqas and 427 for 222 Panch wards in Poonch.
According to the CEO, for the Phase-II of Panchayat Polls, 1038 candidates are in the fray for 468 Sarpanch Halqas and 4165 candidates for 3610 Panch wards across the State for which voting and counting is scheduled be held on November 20.
Similarly, for Phase-I of the Panchayat Polls, 427 candidates are in the fray for 536 Sarpanch Halqas and 5951 candidates for 4048 Panch Wards in the State for which voting and counting is scheduled to be held on November 17.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer, Shaleen Kabra today issued the notification for conduct of the seventh phase of Panchayati Polls to elect Sarpanchs and Panchs.
The notification has been issued for block Trehgam, Qadirabad and Qaziabad in district Kupwara, Naidkhai in Bandipora, Rafiabad and Pattan in Baramulla, Safapora in Ganderbal, Sukhnag and Parnewain in Budgam, Shadimarg in Pulwama, Kapran and Hermain in Shopian, Pombay in Kulgam and Breng, Larnoo and Sagam in Anantnag district of Kashmir division.
In Jammu division, the Panchayati elections will be held in the seventh phase in block Ramban excluding Halqa Panchayat Dandrath-C (Dugson) in Ramban district, Mahore, Gulabgarh and Chasana in Reasi, Samba, Nud and Sumb in Samba, Suchetgarh, Bishnah and Arnia in Jammu, Budhal, Rajnagar and Khawas in Rajouri and Mendhar excluding Panchayat Halqa Pathanateer in Poonch district.
According to the notification, the last date for making nominations is November 16, the date for the scrutiny of nominations is November 17, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 19, the date on which a poll, if necessary, will be held is December 4 from 8 am to 2 pm, the date of counting is December 4 unless notified otherwise, and the date before which the election will be completed is December 17.
