Martyr’s father asks youth to serve nation by joining forces

KISHTWAR, Sept 2: The mortal remains of Rifleman Sepoy Shive Kumar of 15 JAK Li presently posted in 31 RR (CDO), who laid down his life in a week-long encounter at Danna forest area of Bandipora yesterday, were consigned to flames with full military honours in his native Karoor village, here today.
Late Sepoy Shive Kumar sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation in Danna Forests of Bandipora district in which three terrorists were eliminated. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The martyr Sepoy Shive Kumar was 32 years old and had joined the Army in 2005.
Thousands of mourners including the family members and relatives of martyr joined the funeral processions.
The wreaths were laid on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, military authorities and by representatives of civil administration, leaders of social, political and religious organizations.
Commander, HQ 9 Sector RR, Second in Command, 17 Rashtriya Rifles, DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana and SSP Kishtwar Rajinder Gupta were among others, who paid tributes to the martyrs. The Guard of Honour was also presented to the martyr before being given last adieu.
The body which was wrapped in Tricolour was flown to Kishtwar and later, the body taken to his native village in a procession where heart rendering scenes were witnessed as words fail to console the family members including father-mother, wife of the soldier Papi Devi, younger brother, two daughters and a son.
Wedded to serve the nation and lay every drop of blood for protecting its boundaries, the brave soldier, rewrote the history of making their motherland to feel proud of its sons.
Army official said that late Rifleman Shive Kumar was a dedicated, brave and sincere soldier and thorough professional and loved to the core. The nation will forever remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty, he added.
While talking to reporters, martyr’s father Som Nath said that he is proud of his son, who sacrificed his life while serving the nation. He asked the youth to follow the footprints of his son and serve the nation by joining the security forces.
“Our martyr friend belonged to poor family, but since his student life, he wanted to join army and serve the nation. He was very much concerned about his body physique”, friends of martyr Shive Kumar said.
Earlier, in a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander along with Lieutenant General AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation. Representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr.
