61 bovine animals rescued, 4 trucks seized

SUNDERBANI, Oct 1: Foiling major attempt of bovine smuggling, Rajouri Police rescued 61 animals from four trucks, which were chased and seized even as the drivers managed to flee after assaulting cops on duty.
According to reports, a police team from Dharamsal Police Station signalled some trucks to stop at Bakhar Police check point on Jammu Rajouri highway in the wee hours today. However, drivers of these trucks sped away the vehicles and even didn’t care for lives of cops while breaking the check point.

The cops on duty,  led by Head Constable Tilak Raj chased the trucks and managed to intercept them on some distance but these drivers used force against cops and assaulted them. Cops on duty than shared information with higher officials after which a coordinated operation was launched under the supervision of SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas and a team led by SHO Dharamsal Romal Singh moved to Garn on highway and more reinforcement was rushed to the spot from Nowshera as well as from Lamberi Police Post.
Sensing trouble for them, drivers left behind their trucks one kilometer before Garn and fled from the spot.  Police team seized these three trucks and rescued bovine animals loaded in the vehicles.
Drivers of all these three trucks have been booked in case of bovine smuggling as well as in case of assault on cops with registration of cases in relevant sections of law in concerned police station. Police is also going to take action against the owners of these trucks found indulged in bovine smuggling and whose drivers assaulted cops and broke police check Point. These trucks bear registration number JK02AJ 4071, JK02AC 1611 and JK02AE 3657.
Another truck, JKO2T 7660 was later intercepted by police team at Lamberi Police Post naka and bovines were rescued from it besides registration of case.
A total of 61 bovines were rescued during this night long operation.
