55th year of service

The ‘Daily Excelsior’ has crossed 54th year of its inception with fruition of the highest standards of journalism and has today entered into the 55th year with a more firm resolve to keep our avowed obligation to truth from which emanates our loyalty to the citizens of the State and the country. The founder of this paper Late Shri S D Rohmetra who was wedded to and never compromised with the essence of truth and impartiality, without fear or favour, has left behind a legacy for us to emulate and religiously follow in which you, our esteemed readers, are the ultimate appraisers and we hope we have been coming up to your expectations. That the paper is widely circulated and is one of the leading English Dailies in North India is on account of the blend of the deep trust our readers have progressively been reposing in us and the professional excellence displayed by our team who contribute, facing all odds, towards shaping ‘Excelsior’ painstakingly in the form and manner which caters to your taste and needs. We, however, undertake and resolve, on the eve of the New Year, never to falter or deviate from the effulgent path shown by the founder of this paper.
As we are committed to keep you abreast of the latest happenings in the State, country and the world in the process of which, our sincere endeavour shall continue to be getting the facts right, the lambency of which is fairly visible in the resilient and successful journey of ‘Excelsior’ and that we are resolute and unwavering in our steadfastness to try to perform to excel, has been proven beyond any doubt all these years. Needless to add, we have been focussing on issues, which immediately concern the citizens in all the three regions of the State. Instances of corruption, wherever happening and coming to our notice, are brought into the public gaze and the State administrative apparatus impressed upon to take cognizance of the same in order to bring the guilty to justice. Since we all should have zero tolerance towards the scourge of corruption, embezzlements, financial irregularities and even ostentatious and avoidable spending by the Government agencies, we have relentlessly been, not only reporting the specific cases, commenting upon them through our editorial columns but monitoring them regularly with intent to make them travel to logical ends.
The year of 2018 left its imprints vividly behind, particularly in our State which witnessed transition from popular Government to Governor’s rule and lately, now the President’s rule.Though we hold the unyielding view that Governor’s rule cannot be an option for a democratically elected Government, yet the work done during the Governor’s rule deserves due recognition and appreciation. Majority of the pending projects were restarted, which are monitored regularly to enable them race towards meeting revised deadlines. Accountability is being gradually enforced in the system.
2018 witnessed several of ceasefire violations by Pakistan both on LoC as well as along the International Border which resulted in the martyrdom of our many brave hearts. While ‘Excelsior’ remained in the forefront in highlighting the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs, the plight of border dwellers as a result of intermittent shelling etc from across the border too was prominently highlighted. Unprecedented delays in several developmental projects took place surprisingly due to non submission of Utilization Certificates. We played our part as a constituent of responsible media in bringing into limelight peoples’ grievances during Governor’s rule and to our satisfaction got them addressed.
The State witnessed a turning leaf in the democratic activities at the grass root levels by conducting of long due Local Bodies and Panchayat elections in which not a solitary incident of violence took place, the credit of which undoubtedly goes to the administration under the Governor’s rule. ‘Excelsior’ not only led from the front in giving wide coverage to these elections but also contributed towards ensuring peoples’ participation in these elections.
That our readers may get heterogeneous but esteemed opinions on varied relative political, economic, historical, cultural and religious subjects, we arranged write ups from experienced intellectuals from not only the State but from different parts of the country to contribute to our editorial page. It goes to the credit of our core strength comprising our readers as well as our dedicated professional staff that nearly 18 lakh people visit our website on daily basis and over 4.6 crore people have so far seen our news videos.
While we wish 2019 to bring for all of us all-round prosperity, peace and tranquillity to the State, we reaffirm our commitment to the highest benchmarks of fair and fearless journalism and will keep highlighting the problems of the people to ensure that they were resolved.
-Kamal and Neeraj
