5 Kartholi residents construct toilets under CLTS drive

SAMBA, Jan 19: Continuing the drive to declare Samba district as ‘Open Defecation Free District”, five Kartholi residents constructed toilets under Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) drive.
The residents were motivated by the natural leaders in Panchayat Kartholi for the construction of toilets.
In a function organized by Department of Rural Sanitation, the natural leader of Panchayat Kartholi namely Balbir Kumar, who contribution to the overall objective of Swachh Bharat Mission by motivating the households to construct toilets without any Government help was honoured by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Sheetal Nanda. Balbir received a memento and certificate of appreciation from DDC.
Apart from this, the photographs and names of the families having completed their toilet units were got printed on flex banners and installed in their ward so as to motivate the left out families for constructing toilet units at an earliest.
The persons, who constructed the toilet units in their houses, are Beera Ram, Surjeet Singh, Janak Raj, Harbans Lal and Bachan Lal. District Administration presented ‘Appreciation Certificates’ to them and requested them to be Swachhta Doots and contribute in making this Panchayat open defecation free by the end of this financial year.
An awareness programme on sanitation was also organized wherein a detailed Do’s and Don’ts as to sanitation, cleanliness solid waste management and polythene ban was presented by Aijaz Qaiser, District Panchayat Officer Samba.
The purpose of this programme was to generate awareness and motivate people to adopt sanitation and cleanliness as a way of life.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Sheetal Nanda termed Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) drive as the biggest movement for District Samba reaching out to every rural household. She termed sanitation as the key to a healthy life and urged upon the people to ensure cleanliness in and around their households.
Congratulating the awardees, she assured them that all those panchayats which contribute towards this mission will get the maximum share of development in the district.
Block Development Officer Bari Brahmana, Danish Rasool Mir alongwith his team also interacted with the people and motivated them to take up a solid waste management project in their area.
