4th J&K State Handball C’ship gets underway

JAMMU, Feb 17: 4th J&K State Handball Championship in senior men and women sections got underway at MA Stadium, here today.
The Championship is being organized by J&K Handball Association at Jammu, under the Chairmanship of Ashwani Kumar Raina, General Secretary J&K Handball Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Krishan Lal, Treasurer, Mohd Ashraf Parray, Joint Secretary and Sandeep Verma, Press Secretary of J&K Handball Association were also present on the occasion.
Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr SM Bali, CEO Handball Federation of India was the guest of honour in the opening ceremony.
About 175 players of the different districts of the State are participating in the Championship. The matches were officiated by Gaurav Sharma, Vikram Dogra, Chander Shekhar and Bhawana.
The first match in men’s section was played between District Samba and District Udhampur in which Samba emerged winner by 29-11 goals. The main scorer from Samba was Neeru, with 13 goals, while the main scorer from Udhampur was Ankit, with 4 goals.
In another match, Bandipora defeated Kathua by 15-11 goals. Nazir scored 6 goals from Bandipora, while Sandeep netted 3 goals from Kathua.
In yet another match, Rajouri defeated Srinagar by 8-3 goals. Goldi netted 3 goals from Rajouri, while Junaid scored 2 goals from Srinagar.
In the 4th and last match of the day, Poonch defeated Kupwara by 24-2 goals. Zaar Mohd scored 7 goals for Poonch, while Afaq netted 2 goals from Kupwara.
