Jammu is a gateway to Kashmir and link to other parts of the country. It has remained a place of co-existence and harmony since times immemorial. Being close to borders it stands exposed to intrusions across the borders every now and then. Jammuites have firm belief in composite ethos and that is the reason they have accommodated refugees from West Pakistan since 1947. Besides, in 1990 they opened their doors for Kashmiri Pandits who stood hounded out from the Valley by the jehadi elements in the Valley. Since 1990 we have been observing how the writ of radicals in the Valley is prevailing without any check from the corridors of power. It is a sad State of affairs that our law and order maintaining agencies are not given free hand in controlling the situation that is going from bad to worse. Till now Jammu has remained a peace zone and here everybody is free to uphold his faith and ideology.
There are some anti-national forces who are bent upon to disturb peaceful atmosphere of Jammu too. They are the elements who raise hue and cry when the re-settlement of KPs in the Valley is discussed. It cannot be ruled out that some negative forces are trying to change the demographic graph of Jammu. In the surroundings of Jammu, illegal settlements of Rohangiyas, and Bangladeshis has taken place. They are indulging in criminal activities and some cases stand registered against them throughout the country. Today we notice they are vitiating the peaceful atmosphere of the temple city. This is a matter of grave concern and the present dispensation should look into the matter and deport these outsiders as early as possible to secure Jammu.
