46 days Amarnath Yatra from July

A 46 day yatra to the Holy cave of Shree Amarnath Ji in Kashmir shall start this year from July 1 and conclude on August 15 , registration for which shall start on April 1. Governor Satya Pal Malik who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) presided over the Board meeting where this decision was taken.
It hardly needs any special insistence to keep the safety and security of the pilgrims on top priority and for that, even a lesser period would not draw any controversy in as much as any breach or complacency in it which could result in any unwarranted happening looking to the security scenario in the state especially in Kashmir valley. It goes without saying that last year more or less the pilgrimage remained sans any untoward incident thanks to a well coordinated security and safety measures for the yatris. As to the number of pilgrims to be allowed in turns and in one go each day should invariably be linked to the available infrastructure and movements especially by private transport which , if required needs to be regulated right from Lakhanpur post.
Allowing 7500 yatris per day through each of the two routes seems plausible and any downward revision should not be avoided keeping in view the security of and the facilities to the yatris. It is in the fitness of things to duly inform the intending pilgrims between 14 to 74 years of age about securing necessary compulsory health certificates and other relevant papers for registration from the nearest branch of the designated bank . However, post registration and during undertaking the pilgrimage , basic facilities like medical, sanitation , drinking water besides ponies , palkies etc must be adequately taken care of and ensured without any hassles.
