43 kgs poppy straw seized, 3 arrested

RAMBAN, Feb 25: Banihal and Jawahar Tunnel police have seized 43 kilograms poppy straw from two trucks and arrested three persons.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Banihal police station laid a naka at T Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB08CX-5702 coming from Kashmir towards Jammu.
On seeing police cops, the driver managed to escape from the spot taking benefit of the darkness.
During checking, police seized 28 kilograms poppy straw from the truck and arrested the conductor, who has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, son of Gopi Ram, a resident of Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 18/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Banihal police station and hunt has been launched to nab the accused driver.
Police team led by Incharge Banihal police station SI Shamim Ahmed made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
Meanwhile, during checking of a truck bearing registration number PB10DA-1704 at Gund Thethar, the cops from police post Jawahar Tunnel recovered 15 kilograms of poppy straw and arrested the driver and his associate.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Massi (driver), son of Bansa Massi of Punjab and Harnam Massi, son of Chiman Massi of District Gurdaspur, Punjab.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Jawahar Tunnel police post and investigation started.
