40 hospitalised after gas leakage

JAMMU, Dec 18: At least 40 civilians were taken ill after inhaling Chlorine gas leaked from the nearby Army unit in Sunderbani area of district Rajouri this afternoon.
A police spokesman said that people from Ward No.10 of Sunderbani town reported some breathing problem. Their number went on increasing and they started moving to local Sub District Hospital in panic. They felt leakage of some gas.
SHO Sunderbani Ravinder Parihar reached the area and then they took up the matter with the staff at nearby Army Water point/ pumping station. Later, it was discovered that Chlorine gas from the nearby plant was leaked and it created breathing problem for the local civilians in the nearby area. The Army authorities acted swiftly and controlled the leakage.
About 40 persons including women and children, were hospitalized. While 16 were admitted in the SDH, the others were discharged after some time. The doctors said that condition of all of them was stable. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
