Indigenous trainer aircraft

Defence Ministry has put a feather in its cap when the indigenous basic trainer aircraft called Hindustan Turbo Trainer – 40 made its maiden flight in Bangalore in the presence of the Defence Minister. The aircraft was flown for about fifteen minutes for its maiden flight and the engineers, pilots and others were satisfied with it.
The HTT-40 is the aircraft which will be used by all first stage cadets to be trained in flying the crafts by all the three services. The Indian Air Force is likely to place order for 70 machines to the HAL. It is also expected that the aircraft will have buyers outside India. This is an achievement of the HAL and we would like to congratulate the engineers and the staff for this proud success. So far we had to buy the machines from abroad and now we can save good deal of foreign exchange as we have indigenously produced it. Notably, the HAL has the programme of improving the craft in various facets and aims at achieving its operational clearance by 2018, and towards this the company will be manufacturing three prototypes and two static-test specimens. Also work has started on the stall and spin tests campaign in order to meet the project timelines. This is a clear indication that the Government is determined to make the country self reliant in defence equipment production. We are confident that in conducive circumstances, our defence productions will be fully indigenized.
