34 bonded labourers freed in Budgam, united with families after 5 years

Srinagar: As many as 34 people, who were forced to work as bonded labourers in a brick kiln in central Kashmir district of Budgam since 2012, were freed and united with their respective families.

The District Magistrate Budgam today said that 34 bonded labourers at a brick kiln located at village Ichigam in Budgam since 2012 were released and returned to their homes.

Speaking on this occasion, the District Magistrate said that directions and instructions envisaged in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Apex Court directions and guidelines would be followed in letter and spirit.

He added that a message has been forwarded to all brick kiln owners to comply with the given directions as soon as possible through Assistant Labor Commission Budgam.

“Failing to comply with the orders the offender will be booked in terms of Section (2) of the bonded labor (Abolition Act, 1976),” he added. (Agencies)
