JAMMU, Oct 8: State’s ace shuttler Vipul Saini clinched men’s singles and doubles titles in the ongoing 30th Jammu District Badminton Championship, which concluded at Badminton Hall, Gulshan ground, hre today.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest on the occasion, while Danesh Rana, IGP Jammu was the guest of honour, who distributed prizes among the winners on the valedictory function, which among others was attended by Dr OD Sharma, DD Magotra, Prem Dewan and galaxy of parents presents on the occasion.
Earlier, in men’s singles final, talented Vipul defeated almost equally strong contender Divam Gupta (2-1) by (13-21, 21-10, 21-18). Divam won the first set convincingly. However, Vipul came back strongly and won back to back sets to claim the title.
In men’s doubles final, pair of Vipul and Vikram got better of the duo of Rahul and Avnish easily by (2-0) sets by (21-17, 21-15).
The title winners in Under-10 boys and girls singles events were Priyatam Singh and Snowy respectively, while in Under-13 boys and girls singles, Aesh Goswami and Bhavini won the titles respectively.
In Under-15 boys singles final, Aesh Goswami won the title, while in Under-15 girls singles, Naman Mansotra claimed the title.
Raghav Dogra and Naman claimed the titles in Under-17 boys and girls singles respectively, while in Under-19 boys and girls’ singles, Divam Gupta and Naman emerged the title winners.
In veterans singles of various age groups, Lalit Arora, Ramesh Sharma and Balbir Jamwal won titles by defeating Puran Chand, Pawan Parihar and Anil Gurkha respectively.
The Championship was organized by District and City Badminton Association, with an objective to give fillip to this sports discipline in the State.
