3 women among 5 killed, 6 injured in mishap

JAMMU, Oct 7: Five persons including three women were killed and six others were injured when a TATA Sumo, which was on way back to Mairan, Palma in Rajouri district from Najwal, Vijaypur after attending ‘Satsang’ of Radha Swami Beas, met head on collision with a truck at Bakhar Balshama under the jurisdiction of Dharamshal police station, about 10 kilometers ahead of Sunderbani in Rajouri district late this evening.
The Sumo driver was among the fatal casualties.
Three civilians were killed in two other accidents at Khour in Akhnoor tehsil and Manjakote in Rajouri district.
TATA Sumo No. 2309 JK12 and a Public Works Department (PWD) truck No. 9726 JK02AD collided head on due to over speeding when it was getting dark at about 7.15 pm at Bakhar Balshama on main Jammu-Rajouri road.
Of 11 persons traveling in TATA Sumo, five were killed and six others were injured. Truck driver and conductor survived.
Local people from the area rushed to the spot. Police parties from Dharamshal and Sunderbani police station reached the site of accident and launched rescue operation under the supervision of SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi.
All 11 injured were rushed to Sub District Hospital in Sunderbani where five of them were declared dead on spot while six injured were given treatment. All six injured were later referred to Government Medical College hospital in serious condition.
Police said both front tyres of the truck came out due to impact of the collision. Both the vehicles rolled down on the road.
The dead have been identified as Leela Devi wife of Makhan Singh, Satya Devi wife of Kuldeep Raj, Pyari Devi wife of Ajeet Lal, Kuldeep Raj son of Tara Chand, all residents of Mairan, Palma in Rajouri district and Parshotam Kumar son of Beli Ram R/o Saranu, Rajouri, driver of TATA Sumo.
Injured included Paras Ram son of Mani Saran, Ankush son of Anand Kumar, Vandana Kumari daughter of Kuldeep Raj, Raj Kumari wife of Pehal Singh, Madhu Bala daughter of Kailash Chander and Sanjna Kumari daughter of Kuldeep Raj, all residents of Mairan, Palma.
Sources said the dead and injured were related to each other and had hired TATA Sumo for ‘Satsang’ of Radha Swami Beas at Nazwal near Vijaypur. They were returning from the ‘Satsang’ to their house when the tragedy struck, police said.
Police have registered a case in the accident at Dharamshal police station for further investigations.
Meanwhile, a Scorpio rolled down the road at village Said in Khour area of Akhnoor tehsil today killing two passengers and injuring five others.
The dead have been identified as Ashok Kumar son of Natha Ram and Sardari Lal son of Dina Nath, both residents of Khara. Injured included Vijay Kumar, Sardari Lal, Tilak Raj, Sohan Lal and Romesh Lal. They have been hospitalized.
A TATA Sumo No. 4649 JK12 crushed a child, who was crossing the road at Manjakote in Rajouri district this morning. The victim has been identified as Aihtyam-ul-Hassan son of Mohammad Yusuf R/o Mangalnarh.
